The World Needs Healing and Hope

by Rick

Yesterday was Election Day 2016 in the United States of America.  Today is the Day After and many are in shock.  One thing I know is that God is not shocked.  With that in mind, I will seek to share with you what I believe the Father wants me to say.

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things.

1.  The world is shocked.

a)  Donald Trump beating Hillary Clinton was an upset of epic proportions.  Donald Trump is the first person elected President of the United States who has never served in government (in any capacity) or in the military.  The pollsters did not see this coming.

b)  The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 700 points last night in response to the upset win by (now) President-Elect Donald Trump.

2.  God is not surprised.

a)  God knew Donald Trump would win and He knew it before the world began.

b)  While President-Elect Trump is a surprise to many, those who are surprised should find peace in knowing that God was surprised.

3.  God’s plans for you have not changed.

a)  God has been speaking to you all year, about what He wants to do in, with and through you, this year and in the years to come.  None of those plans change because of a change in presidency.

b)  God is unmoved and unphased.  Since God is IN you and you are IN Him, you should not be moved or phased either.

4.  God can use anyone.

a)  Anyone who thinks God cannot use Donald Trump is someone who obviously has NOT read the Bible.  God can — and our prayer should be that He will — use Donald Trump for His glory.

b)  Our God is in the business of making holy garments from flawed material.  If God can use you, then yes, He can use Donald Trump.

5.  As believers, this is OUR TIME to shine.

a)  This election has opened up old wounds and re-ignited old flames of division.  Now that the election is over, our nation needs healing and our people need hope.  They can find both in YOU, since you are Born-Again.

b)  If you voted for Donald Trump, please don’t gloat.  Remain humble.  Many will be too emotional to handle gloating and it may lead to unnecessary  strife.  If you voted for Hillary Clinton, don’t be bitter.  All’s not lost.  The world is not coming to an end.  God is still God.  Whether your candidate won or lost, your eyes need to be on Jesus.

c)  Use your words to minister grace to each other.  Emotions are going to be running high (up or down) for many.  Where’s the grace going to come from?  It’s going to come from God, through you!

d)  The time for partisan politics and divisive rhetoric are over.  The Bible says, “When you talk, don’t say anything bad.  But say the good things that people need—whatever will minister grace and help them grow stronger.  Then what you say will be a blessing to those who hear you.” (Eph 4:29)

6.  Pray for our nation and the President-Elect.

a)  America voted for change last night.  Change is coming.  Some will see this as a good thing.  Others as a bad thing.  But in the end, those you trust in God will be just fine.

b)  The new administration will have major challenges ahead.  Our nation and all the elected officials need our prayers.

c)  I will close with the words of Paul.  He said, “First of all, I ask that you pray for all people. Ask God to bless them and give them what they need.  And give thanks.  You should pray for rulers and for all who have authority.  Pray for these leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceful lives—lives full of devotion to God and respect for him.  This is good and pleases God our Savior.” (1 Tim 2:1-3)

Closing Confession:  Father, I thank You for being my source and strength.  Times change, seasons change, administrations change, but You remain the same.  You are the same yesterday, today and forevermore.  So I keep my eyes ON You and my confidence IN You.  I give myself over to You this morning, to be used to minister healing and to shine as hope in this world.  Towards those who are gloating, You will help me remind them to be sober towards the challenges to come and humble towards all men.  Towards those who are down, You will allow me to help them lift up their heads towards You.  You have not changed.  You were not surprised.  You still have a plan.  You’re still God.  You still reign.  And You will still bless the United States of America.  Forward ever, backward NEVER, the best is yet to come!  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

This is Today’s Word!  Apply it and Prosper.
