Jairus and His Daughter (Part 2)

Reak Mark 5:21-43

This morning we continue our series entitled, “The Year of Supernatural Manifestation”, with our mini-series on “The Miracles of Jesus”.  In our last message I introduced you to the story of Jairus and his daughter.  Today we continue the story.

When we left off Jairus had made declaration of faith, asking Jesus to go to his home and lay hands of his daughter, who was at the point of death.  Jesus agreed with Jairus’ faith.  Jesus, His disciples, Jairus and the crowd all started walking towards Jairus’ home.  As they went, someone in the crowd “touched” Jesus.  While countless people were touching Jesus, there was a woman who “touched” Him with a touch of faith.  Jesus actually felt divine power leave His body, because of the touch.  I will discuss this woman’s situation in detail later this week.  For today, suffice is to say that this woman slowed Jesus down.  Jesus stopped to have a conversation with her and by the end of the conversation, someone came from Jairus’ home with bad news.  The said to Jairus, “Your daughter is dead, don’t bother the teacher any more.”

When Jairus received news that his daughter was dead, it was a critical point in the story and his life.  Jairus had boldly declared, right in front of everyone at the seashore, that if Jesus went to his home and laid hands of his daughter, that she would “recover and live”.  Guess what?  Jesus still had the power to made Jairus’ confession good.  The situation got worse before it got better, but Jesus was still able.  The question is: did Jairus still have faith?  Could Jairus still believe God, even in the middle of a dead situation?  The person who came with the bad news told Jairus not to bother Jesus anymore.  So, would Jairus dismiss Jesus, and with-so-doing, dismiss his daughter’s only chance for life?  Or would he continue marching towards his home with the Son of God?

Jesus knew what was going on in Jairus’ heart and mind.  Jesus knew he was struggling with maintaining his faith in the middle of a dead situation.  So, before Jairus could say anything negative, Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”  Jairus’ daughter was dead, but just as long as his faith was not dead along with her, Jesus could do what He was on track to do.  If Jarius told Jesus to leave, Jesus would oblige.  If Jairus continued on with the mission, Jesus would go with him.  Thankfully, Jairus heeded Jesus’ plea.  Jairus continued to believe God, even though his daughter was now physically dead and the team continued on towards his home.

I will stop here for today.  We will pick it up from here tomorrow.

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things:

  1.  In the natural world you move things with your hands.  In the spirit realm you move things with your words.

  1.  Jairus’ words of faith caused Jesus to start heading towards his home.  Jairus’ words of doubt, fear or unbelief could have caused Jesus to stop.  Never underestimate the power of words, especially when spoken from a believing heart.

  1.  When you make a declaration of faith, openly agreeing with God and His limitless power, you can expect satan and his kingdom to do all he can to get you to change your confession.  The key is to NEVER allow what you see (in this world) to cause you to change what you said (in faith).

  1.  Living faith can engage God’s power to overcome dead situations.

  1.  It’s never too late for God!  If God is still alive, then your situation still has hope!

  1.  Fear cancels out faith and faith cancels out fear.  Both are released with words.  Which will you declare today?

Closing Confession:  Father, this is a year of Great Victory for me.  I expect to see Your supernatural power manifested in my life like never before.  I spend time in Your presence.  In Your presence You reveal to me Your will.  I then openly and boldly declare what I see!  I speak words of faith, from a believing heart, and I refuse to allow what I see to change what I say!  I know living faith can overcome dead situations.  So I walk by faith and not by sight!  I am not moved when a situation gets worse before it gets better.  I am only moved by You and Your Word.  Living this way, I know this year shall be the BEST YEAR of my life!  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name, amen!

This is Today’s Word!  Apply it and prosper!
