Feeding The 5,000

Read John 6:1-15

This morning we continue our series entitled, “The Year of Supernatural Manifestation”, with our mini-series on “The Miracles of Jesus”.  John 6 opens with a great crowd following Jesus because of the miracles.  Jesus went up on a hillside and sat there with His disciples.  As they looked out at the crowd heading their way, Jesus said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough bread for all these people to eat?”  He asked Philip this question to test him.  Jesus already knew what he planned to do.

Phillip, also known as “The analytical one”, immediately began to do the math.  He said, “Jesus, 8 months’ wages would only buy enough bread for each person to have a little piece!”  This is when Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, spoke up.  Andrew said, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?

Jesus said, “Tell everyone to sit down.”  About 5,000 men (not counting the women and children) sat down on the grass.  Jesus took the loaves of bread and gave thanks to the Father.  He then gave them to the people who were waiting to eat.  He did the same with the fish.  He gave them as much as they wanted.  They all had plenty to eat.  When they finished, Jesus said to his followers, “Gather the pieces of fish and bread that were not eaten.  Don’t waste anything.”  So, they gathered up the pieces that were left.  When the people started eating there were five loaves of barley bread and two fish.  After everyone ate, there were 12 large baskets of food left over.  The people present said, “This man Jesus must be the Prophet who is coming into the world.”  Jesus knew that the people planned to come get him and make him their king.  So He left and went into the hills alone.

So what does this mean to you today?  I won’t be able to cover this miracle in one message.  I will address it over the next few days.  For today I will focus in on this thought: “We must learn to think like the God we worship.”

  1.  Our God is a God of abundance and overflow.  This is the same God who provided an entire forest, fed by four streams, with a built-in supernatural irrigation system, for just two people (Adam and Eve).  This is the same God who made Abraham rich in cattle, silver and gold.  This is the same God who made Solomon the richest man on the planet.  This is the same God who took the nation of Israel from the land of not enough (Egypt), to the land of just enough (the desert), to the land of TOO MUCH STUFF (Canaan).  Our God is not a small God.  If you want to receive from God on the level He is capable of operating in, you must learn to think on His level.  THINK BIG!

  1.  Philip was very analytical, so he did the math to calculate how much money would be required to buy enough bread for each person to have just one bite of bread.  If he did the math for just one bite, he could have just as easily done the math for a full meal.  But he didn’t.  Why?  Because he was not thinking like God.  Jesus was not looking to feed the crowd one bite of bread.  The text says that they had as much as they wanted, they ate until they were full, and there were still 12 baskets of food left over.  God is a God of abundance and we must learn to think like Him if we are to receive abundantly from Him.  Jesus said that He came that we might have life and live it to the full, until it overflows! (John 10:10 AMP).

  1.  Your thinking may be keeping you from receiving from God.  You must learn to think like God thinks.  When your opinion and God’s opinion, of any given situation, are in alignment, you are then in position to receive from God in a supernatural way.

  1.  Our God is a limitless God.  But in order to receive from Him in a limitless way, you must remove every artificial limit you have placed on Him in your mind.

Closing Confession:   Father, this is a year of Great Victory for me.  This year I will experience supernatural manifestation like never before, because I am now thinking like You think.  There is nothing You cannot do.  You are a God of NO LIMITS.  I realize I had placed artificial limits on You, in my mind and in my heart.  But those limits are gone now!  I think like You think.  I speak like You speak.  I see the way You see.  I live the way You birthed me to live.  I may have been born natural to this world, but I was Born-Again!  The supernatural is natural to me, because I was BORN FROM ABOVE!  I now live a supernatural life!  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

This is Today’s Word!  Apply it and Prosper.
