It Does Not Yet Appear

by Rick

Today we continue our series entitled, “God Loves You”, under the overall theme for the year of, “Supernatural Manifestation.”  I have truly been enjoying these messages on the love of God.  I trust you have enjoyed them as well.  The Apostle John, the disciple Jesus loved, had a lot to say about God’s love.  Yesterday I was meditating on what John said in 1 John 3:2.  The King James Version reads, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”  I want to share verses 1-3 with you from the Message Bible.

The Message Bible reads, “What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to.  But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.”  (1 John 3:1-3 MSG)

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things.

1.  Isn’t it amazing that God made you His child?

a)  God is God and we are not!  So it would be reasonable to think that God would make us His slaves.  If God wanted to be nice to us, He could have dropped us down from slaves to servants, maybe.  But God loves us SO much that He did not make us slaves or servants, He made us SONS!

b)  A son doesn’t work on becoming a son, they simply ARE a son!  You can’t work on becoming a child of God, if you have accepted Jesus as Lord, YOU ARE ONE… NOW!  You are God’s own child and you have all the rights and privileges that come with being a son.

c)  When God looks at you today, He sees you THE SAME WAY He saw Jesus while Jesus was in the world.  You did nothing to earn or deserve this.  God did it; and He did it simply because He loves you!

2.  God loves us so much that it does not yet even appear what we shall be!

a)  Have you ever met a leader who did not think or act rationally towards one of the people they led?  And you then found out that the leader was acting irrationally, because they are fond of the person, or maybe even in love with them.  This is what happens with us.  God loves us SO much that He does things for us that make no sense whatsoever.  The Apostle John said that it does not yet appear what we shall be, because God loves us SO much that He is capable of doing just about anything in, with and through us.  He doesn’t do it because we are so good.  He doesn’t do it because we worked for it.  He certainly doesn’t do it because we deserve it.  He simply does it because He loves us!

b)  God loves us SO much that making us His children, the Bible says, “is only the beginning”.  The Bible then says, “Who knows how we’ll end up!”  God is SO in love with you that He is viable of doing just about anything.  He will manifest His love TO you and then perform in the impossible through you, simply because He loves you.  This is why it is so important for you to receive and believe the love of God.

c)  I am convinced that the love of God is the key to the supernatural!

I will stop here for today and revisit this passage tomorrow.

Closing Confession:  Father, this is a year of Great Victory for me.  Not because I am so good, but because I am the one You love.  You love me SO much that You made me Your son.  I am Your child.  You are my Daddy.  I am not a slave.  I am not a servant.  I am a SON!  You love me SO much that You do things for me that are completely irrational.  You don’t bless me in accordance with my actions.  You bless me in accordance with Your love.  This means anything can happen.  It does not yet appear what I shall be, becuase You are capable of doing just about anything through me… simply because You love me!  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
