As I Sleep & As I Rise

by Rick

Today we continue our series entitled, “Back to the Bible,” with Part 43.  We have been looking at Psalm 119.  Let’s continue to walk through this amazing psalm.  We are reading from The Passion Bible Translation.

David said:

(v.147) Before the day dawns, I’ll be crying out for help and wrapping your words into my life.

(v.148) I lie awake every night pondering your promises to me.

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things.

1.  Meditate on God’s promises as you doze off into sweep sleep.  David said, “I lie awake every night pondering your promises to me.” (Psalm 119:148).

a)  God has given us many great and precious promises in His Holy Word.  If you are sensitive to listen/hear, you will also receive many more through the Holy Spirit.  If you truly believe the promises will come to pass, you will think about them all the time. You will live your life in expectation of manifestation.  This type of excitement/expectation is a key component to the life of faith.

b)  If you have a list of promises from God you are meditating and medicating on, and you truly believe those promises are going to come to pass, you will think about them as you doze off into sleep.  It is powerful to lay in bed, thinking about the things you are called to do, knowing it is only a matter of time before they come to pass.

c)  If God’s promises to you are the last things you think about as you doze off into sleep, you actually position yourself to dream God-sized dreams.  You spend about a third of your life sleeping and God can certainly speak to you as you do, so don’t waste your time in bed. Think about God’s promises as you doze off into sleep and ask God to speak to you in your dreams.

d)  We serve a God who can give you dreams while you are sleeping and visions while you are awake.  Ask Him for both! Because it is His revealed knowledge that informs your faith. God’s revelation let’s you know what to ask for in prayer and what to do in practice.

2.  Incorporate God’s Word into your day before you even get out of the bed.  David said, “Before the day dawns, I’ll be crying out for help and wrapping your words into my life.” (Psalm 119:147).

a)  Meditating and meditating on God’s promises to you as you doze off into sleep is very powerful, but don’t leave out the morning part.  When you wake up, before you get out of your bed, think about God, His Word, and your day. David told us that he cried out for help and he incorporated God’s Words into his life BEFORE DAWN.  The point is that God and His Word should be the first thing on your mind as you start your day.

b)  Once your day starts and your schedule begins, if you have not involved God in your morning ritual to that point, you are in a bad situation.  Life is going to come at you hard and fast. And if you wait ‘till a situation arises where you need God to get God involved in your day, you are making God an afterthought and your life will reflect it.

c)  Meditate on God’s goodness, His Word, and His promises to you, even before you get out of the bed.  This way you are incorporating God into your day before your day starts. Living this way you can COMMAND YOUR MORNING; you can literally TELL YOUR DAY what type of day it is going to be.  This is part of the life of faith.

Closing Confession:

Father, this is a season of expectation for me.  I enter every day with an elevated expectation of Your manifestation in my life.  I meditate and medicate on Your Word and Your promises to me as I doze off into sweep sleep.  You are the last thing on my mind as I release myself into my dreams. I then open my heart to dream the dreams You want me to have.  And when I wake up, I declare that You are the first thing on my mind. I think about You and I incorporate You into my day BEFORE I even get out of the bed.  Living this way I am able to COMMAND MY MORNING and TELL MY DAY what type of day it is going to be! As I sleep and as I rise I think about You! This positions me for divine success as I launch into every meeting, conversation and activity in each day!  I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

This is Today’s Word.  Apply it and prosper!
