(Prov 25:13 NLT) Trustworthy messengers refresh like snow in summer. They revive the spirit of their employer.
This morning we continue our series, “Unlocking the Power of Proverbs – Walking in the Wisdom of God.” When you read this verse you must consider Solomon’s perspective. Solomon was a leader; a sitting king. He dealt with other heads of state and a multitude of his own leaders on a regular basis. He was well aware of the fact that his subordinate leaders filtered the requests to reach his level and by the time someone was actually granted access to the king, they were on their best behavior. This also meant that a good portion of what he heard was peppered with superfluities. Person after person would stand before Solomon and promise to delivery ‘this and that,’ but the reality is that, like today, only a portion of those who promise actually deliver on their promises. Further, many of those who promised and delivered only did so once or twice. Finding someone who promises and performs on a regular basis – day after day, month after month, year after year – is hard. Solomon was looking for leaders who would consistently and faithfully perform for the long haul. When considering his staff Solomon asked the question: “A faithful man, who can find?” (20:6).
As a leader Solomon was looking for faithful, reliable and trustworthy workers. In the military we call them “fire-and-forget” Soldiers. Having a fire-and-forget Soldier means that you can fire a task their way and as soon as they have it, you can forget about it, because it is as good as done. You don’t have to worry about it, follow up on them, check behind them, or anything, because as soon as they understand the mission and set out to do it, you can rest in knowing that it will be done, to standard, and on time. Solomon says that these type of workers are like snow in the summer; providing welcomed refreshment for their leadership. When a leader gets worn down from the daily grind, this type of worker helps revive their spirit, because they are able to trust and truly rely on them.
Solomon, as a leader, was always on the lookout for this type of faithful, reliable, and trustworthy follower. And guess what? God is looking for the same. How many people stand before God claiming to be faithful? How many get before God’s presence and promise to do better? And of those people, how many actually deliver on those promises? Now, I am not talking about being faithful for a week, or a month, or even a year. I am talking about being faithful God to for the long haul. How many people do you know who were once passionate about God, but have now lost their way? How many do you know who were once on-fire, but are now burned out? But let’s not just talk about God, how many people do you know who promised to be there for you, forever, but now they won’t even call? People can claim this or that, but at the end of the day, it is simply hard to find someone who is going to be faithful and loyal for the long haul.
So what does this mean to you today? A few things:
1. God, and natural leaders, are looking for faithful, reliable, and trustworthy people.
2. When you prove yourself to be a trustworthy worker, you will become a blessing to your employer/leader and your God.
3. Commit to being loyal and faithful, for the long haul, and you will experience both natural and spiritual blessings.
The Bible asks: “A faithful man, who can find?” Today your response should be, “Here I am Lord, look no further!”
Closing Confession: Father, I thank You for Your grace and Your Spirit. I will be faithful and loyal all the days of my life. I know there is no retirement plan for the believer. Therefore, I will be faithful to You and to Your plan for my life, until the day I die. I will also be loyal and faithful to my employer/leader. I am blessed to be a blessing to my leadership. They don’t have to worry about dong my job, because I accomplish every task on time and in excellence. Once my leader gives me an assignment, they can rest assured that it will get done. I serve You Father, and my earthly leadership, faithfully, every day. I declare this by faith! In Jesus’ name. Amen!
