(Prov 28:5 KJV) Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.
This morning we continue our “Unlocking the Power of Proverbs – Walking in the Wisdom of God” series. The judgment Solomon speaks of here is the judgment of God, the ways of the Master, the divine truth of the creator. Those who fail to pursue God never get a grasp of His ways and never gain access to His wisdom. Therefore, they loosely stumble through life, never discovering their purpose and never maximizing their potential. Those of us who seek the Lord, however, Solomon says, “understand all things.” Not that we know the answers to all of life’s questions, but we are surely better equipped to maneuver through life’s minefields. Why? Because we have the author and finisher of our faith living on the inside of us. The one who made us and knows everything about us, the master-architect of our life’s assignment, becomes our lifelong personal guide. Like a Sherpa guiding a climber to the top of Everest, the Holy Spirit Himself leads and guides us towards the summit of our life’s purpose. And when we live this way – purpose driven and Spirit led – others consider us to be ‘wise beyond our years,’ because the wisdom we are tapping into is supernatural.
Paul explained this well to the church in Corinth. Paul wrote, “No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit.” You don’t know what I am thinking, and quite honestly, you have no way of knowing. However, if there were a way for me to put my spirit in you, and my spirit still remain in me at the same time, then you would have your spirit in you (so you can know what you are thinking), but you would also have my spirit in you (and you would know what I am thinking). The problem is, I have no way of giving you my spirit. I can’t do that, but God can and did. Paul went on to write, “And no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things… we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ” (see 1 Cor 2:11-16). Paul give us the contrast; those with the Spirit of God residing in them have access to supernatural wisdom and those without the Holy Spirit consider supernatural things foolish, because they just can’t understand them.
John said it this way: “But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what He teaches is true—it is not a lie” (1 Jn 2:27).
So what does this mean to you today? A few things:
1. God’s precious Holy Spirit gives you access to supernatural insight.
2. Supernatural insight enables you to tap into ‘wisdom beyond your years’ and experience.
3. When you tap into supernatural insight, people marvel at what you are able to accomplish, but they don’t realize you are not doing it by human ability alone.
4. The Holy Spirit can lead and guide you to the fulfillment of your life’s purpose. Like a travel guide on a vacation, the Holy Spirit can become your personal life-guide and if you heed His guidance, your life will be rewarding, fulfilling, and impactful.
Closing Confession: Father, it’s not Your will for me to loosely stumble my way through life. You gave me Your precious Holy Spirit and I declare that He is my life-guide. I am led by the Holy Spirit daily. The Holy Spirit speaks to me while I’m asleep, He shows me things in my dreams, He reveals things to me while I am awake, and He leads me in all things. I learn to tune my spiritual ear to His voice and I train my spirit to sense His leading. I am a spirit-led believer, who has access to supernatural insight daily. I shall maximize my life’s purpose and potential, because I don’t live my life by human ability alone. I am a problem solver, a challenge overcomer, and victorious child of the Most High God. People marvel at the wisdom I operate in, because it is wisdom from above. Father, thank You for gracing me to accomplish all that You have destined for me to accomplish, for Your glory! I declare this all by faith! In Jesus’ name. Amen!
