Words of Faith from a Believing Heart

by Rick

(Mark 5:23 KJV)  And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

This morning we continue our new series entitled, “Faith and Patience VOL III – Never Give Up!” by continuing with the story of Jairus and his daughter.  I returned home last night from Virginia Beach.  Our family had a great time and we stopped at Busch Gardens on the way back.  Our 6yr. old, Joshua, had so much fun that I could not help but think about him this morning as I thought about Jairus.  Jairus’ daughter was at the point of death.  I don’t even want to imagine one of my children in that situation, but if they ever got there, I am positive that I, like Jairus, would do everything possible for them.  As parents we are to pray over our children and shield them (naturally and supernaturally) from harm.  But if our children ever get in a bad situation, it is incumbent upon us, as parents, to stand in faith for their breakthrough and to remain in faith no matter how long it takes.  We will see in this story that things got worse before they got better, but Jairus maintained his faith.

Before we go further in this story, let’s take a closer look at what Jairus said to Jesus and seek to glean some nuggets from it:

1.  Jairus did not omit the facts:  Being a man/woman of faith who is determined to speak the language of faith does not mean that you have to omit the facts.  Jairus spoke the facts: his daughter was sick and lying at the point of death.  Some people, in an attempt to always speak words of faith, refuse to speak the facts of their situation.  Meaning, if a sickness has attacked your body, it is alright to admit it, and then simply follow that up by saying that you are believing God for healing.

2.  He did not allow the facts to override his faith:  Immediately after stating the facts, Jairus spoke words of faith.  He declared, with his own lips, that his daughter would be healed and she would live through hands of Jesus.  The truth (God and His Word) is greater than facts.

3.  He exposed his level of belief with his words:  Jesus had already healed a Centurion’s servant without having to visit his house, but Jairus’ level of belief was not the same as the centurion.  Jairus believed that Jesus needed to go to his house and lay hands of his daughter.  That is where his belief-level was.  Jesus did not condemn him or compare him to the Centurion.  Jesus simply met Jairus at his level of belief and He will do the same for you.

4.  He spoke words of faith from a believing heart:  Jairus did what you and I did when we became Christians.  He confessed with his mouth and believed in his heart (Rom 10:9,10).  Speaking words you don’t believe does nothing.  When you close out these messages with the “Closing Confession,” it is my prayer that you speak the words of faith from a believing heart.  If you do, you will experience true change.

5.  His words of faith moved Jesus to action:  When we received Jesus as Lord the combination of speaking and believing caused God to honor His Word and transfer us from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God.  Likewise, the combination of speaking and believing moved Jesus to action and He left for Jairus’ house.  In the same way, speaking words of faith from a believing heart can get God involved in your situation today.  But you cannot fool God with empty words; He sees your heart.  So you must declare the Word of the Lord over your situation, in faith, from a believing heart, and you will see change!

Closing Confession:  Father, I am earnest in my approach to You this morning.  I confess with my mouth that You are greater than any situation I face.  You are my God, You are the only true God, and You are the greatest force in my life.  I also believe in my heart that what I just confessed is true.  My words line up with my belief.  I speak words of faith from a believing heart and I experience what I say.  Father, I ask You to get involved in my life today and this week, and as You do, I believe You will bring me victory and peace in every area.  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!
