NOTE: I am in the Dominican Republic today. I am going to visit our two schools and also take food to the local prison. I will be given a few minutes to preach the Gospel in prison. Please believe God with me for His supernatural love to penetrate the hearts and minds of the prisoners. Thank you.
This morning we continue our series entitled, “Refined Focus”, with a mini-series within it entitled “Focusing on the Word”. We are walking our way through the first half of the first psalm. Let’s get back to it. The Bible says:
(Psalm 1:1-3 KJV) “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
(Psalm 1:1-3 ERV) “Great blessings belong to those who don’t listen to evil advice, who don’t live like sinners, and who don’t join those who make fun of God. Instead, they love the Lord’s teachings and think about them day and night. So they grow strong, like a tree planted by a stream—a tree that produces fruit when it should and has leaves that never fall. Everything they do is successful.”
We have been studying this Psalm for weeks. In this message we will focus in on the line: “in his law doth he meditate day and night”, or “think about them day and night.” The psalmist has already made it clear that the “Blessed Man” described in this psalm stays away from the lifestyle of sin, but what NOT to do is ever as powerful as what TO do. The true key to his success is not in what he stayed away from. It is in what he gave his attention to. This man made a concerted effort to align his mind with God’s Word.
So what does this mean to you today? A few things.
- Every action you take was either initiated by a conscious thought or the force-of-habit, which was initially created by many thoughts. Therefore your thoughts drive your life. This is why it is very important for the believer to align his/her thoughts with God’s.
- When you come to God you already have a certain mindset. Your mind is SET to think a certain way and it is NOT aligned with God. God has a mindset. He wants you to experience His best for your life. In order to do so, the Lord requires you to change your way of thinking to align with His. When your mindset and God’s mindset are in alignment/agreement, you are able to fully cooperate with Him and He is able to freely operate in your life.
- The goal of the believer is to become a human conduit of the divine. You experience God’s best when the Lord flows through you. But the Lord has a hard time flowing through a person who does not think or act like Him in the earth. This is why your mind must be renewed.
- It took you years to program your mind to think the way you thought before you came to God. For me it was 23 years. The day you were Born-Again you have a new spirit, but you don’t have a new mind. The new man, in the old body, needs a new mind. This is where meditating on God’s Word comes in.
- If you meditate and medicate on God’s Word day and night, you put yourself in position to align your thoughts with God’s. Once you do, all bet’s are off, all limits are gone, and impossibilities become realities, because at that point God is able to flow through you.
- The supernatural life begins by changing your natural mind to think like your supernatural God.
Closing Confession: Father, this is a season of refined focus for me. I bring my life into focus this year by focusing on Your Word. The day I was Born-Again Your Spirit made my spirit new. However, my mind was not made new. My mind is made new daily as I meditate and medicate on Your Word. I GIVE my attention to You. I think about Your Word day and night. I want you to use me to change the world. I want to maximize my purpose and potential. But I also know that in order to do so I must come in alignment with Your divine assignment for my life. This is where my thoughts come in. If my thoughts don’t align with Yours, I will miss out on Your best. But I declare that they do and they will. I meditate Your Word every day and throughout the day. In so doing I release every limit I have ever placed on You, I see You as the God of NO LIMITS, and I open my heart to the supernatural! I declare this by faith! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
This is Today’s Word! Apply it and Prosper.
