Today we continue our series, “As Jesus Is”, under the banner of the overall series for the year, “Supernatural Manifestation.” We have been looking at 1 John 4:16,17 for a couple of months now. I have been adding other passages to it. Right now we are looking at 1 John 4:16,17 and Philippians 2. Let’s get to it.
The Apostle John said:
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
(1 John 4:16, 17 KJV)
The Apostle Paul said:
“In your life together, think the way Christ Jesus thought. He was like God in every way, but he did not think that his being equal with God was something to use for his own benefit. Instead, he gave up everything, even his place with God. He accepted the role of a servant, appearing in human form.
During his life as a man, he humbled himself by being fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross. So God raised him up to the most important place and gave him the name that is greater than any other name.”
(Philippians 2:5-9 ERV)
Today I will focus in on this statement, “During his life as a man, he humbled himself by being fully obedient to God.”
The point of this series is for us to learn to live as Jesus lived in the earth. It’s hard to do that, if you don’t understand the mindset Jesus lived with. Paul tells us that Jesus was obedient to God the Father, in every way. Today we will look at some scriptures that make this evident. Jesus modeled for us what our relationship with God should look like.
So what does this mean to you today? A few things.
- In John 5:19 Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself.” Jesus did not say that He could do whatever He wanted, but that He simply “chose” to the submit to the Father. NO! Jesus was saying that as a human conduit of the divine, ALL HIS POWER came from the divine part of His being and NONE OF IT came from His humanity. He literally could NOT DO anything without the Father. Guess what? We are in the same boat! All our power comes from God! There is nothing righteous in our humanity and there is NO POWER in it. The key to the supernatural is humbling yourself to the divine power that lies within you.
- In John 5:30 Jesus said, “I can do nothing alone… I am not trying to please myself. I want only to please the one who sent me.” Jesus took it a step further here. Not only did Jesus acknowledge the fact that He could NOT do anything without the Father, but He gave us a glimpse into His heart. In His heart, He was not living for Himself. He was not selfish in any way. He only wanted to please the one who sent Him to this planet. This is the mindset we are supposed to live with. This is the mind of Christ. This is how we live, “As Jesus is, in this world!”
- In John 6:38 Jesus said, “I did not come down from heaven to do my will, but rather the will of the one who sent me.” Jesus’ mission was simple and He modeled it for us. The role of every human is to simply perform the will of the one who sent us here. As the creation, our role is to please the Creator! We are on this planet for no other reason.
- In John 8:28 Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me.” Jesus performed no act without the Father’s leading, and He said no word without the Father’s instruction. He only said what He heard the Father say. He only did what He saw the Father do. This is the mind of Christ. This is how we live, “As Jesus is, in this world!”
- In John 12:49 Jesus said, “I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and how to say it.” Not only will the Father tell you what to say. But He will tell you HOW to say it. He tell you where to go and what to do when you get there. He will tell you who to talk to and then what to say when you are engaged with the person. This is how Jesus lived and it is how we are supposed to live!
- In John 14:10 Jesus said, “Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, carrying out His work.” Jesus made it clear that it was the Father, living in Him, who gave Him the words and who performed the work. Two verses later, Jesus said that WE would do what He did, and even GREATER WORKS. However, for us to do what He did, we must live as He lived. We must develop His mindset. We must live as His representative. “As Jesus is, so are we, in this world!”
Closing Confession: Father, this is a year of Great Victory for me. Because I have the mind of Christ. I can do NOTHING without You. I am not here to perform my will. I am on this planet to perform Your will, Father. I say what You tell me to say. I do what You tell me to do. I go where You lead me to go. I connect with the people You want me to connect with. My life is all about YOU! This is why I boldly declare: As Jesus is, so am I, in this world! I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
