Today we continue our series entitled, “Back to the Bible,” with Part 20. We have been looking at Psalm 119. Today we will look at verses 33-35 from The Passion Bible Translation (TPT).
David said:
(v.33) Give me revelation about the meaning of your ways so I can enjoy the reward of following them fully.
(v.34) Give me an understanding heart so that I can passionately know and obey your truth.
(v.35) Guide me into the paths that please you, for I take delight in all that you say.
So what does this mean to you today? A few things.
1. God can reveal His truth to you. David said, “Give me revelation about the meaning of your ways so I can enjoy the reward of following them fully.” (Psalm 119:33 TPT)
a) Many people read the Word of God without understanding it. There are layers and layers of revelation in God’s Word. When you are Born-Again and you are filled with the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God Himself, who is the author of the book, lives in you. So as you read the Bible, the author Himself is able to tell you what He meant. This type of revelation does not come with surface level reading. This happens only as a result of God’s spirit. This is a supernatural act.
b) You can read a scripture you have been reading for years and then see it in an entirely new way, because God opened your eyes to see it the way He wrote it. This the type of revelation that is available to you when you read God’s Word.
2. God can help you get an understanding of His Word. David said, “Give me an understanding heart so that I can passionately know and obey your truth.” (Psalm 119:34 TPT)
a) The ultimate goal of divine understanding is true obedience to God and His Word. God helps you to understand what He meant so you can live as He desires. This is why it is important to read the Word of God on a daily basis.
b) You will never maximize what you do not understand. So God can see to it that you receive divine understanding as you read His Word. This divine understanding gives you an advantage as you seek to “do life” on a daily basis.
3. God can guide you in the paths that please Him. David said, “Guide me into the paths that please you, for I take delight in all that you say.” (Psalm 119:34 TPT)
a) Most believers have an innate desire to please God. It’s just that many don’t know what to do. They don’t know how to live a life that is pleasing in God’s sight. First of all, the answers are found in God’s Word. God’s Word is God’s will on paper. But second, God Himself can guide us in the way that we should go. That should be our prayer.
b) Read the Word of God on a daily basis. Get God’s Word down in your heart. And then pray for the guidance required to walk out what you learned.
4. When you open your heart to divine insight, you can live the life God called you to live.
a) This morning we looked at Psalm 119:33-35. In verse 33 we learned that God can give us divine revelation. In verse 34 we learned that God can give us divine understanding. In verse 35 we learned that God can guide us in the paths that please Him. When you put it all together you have revealed knowledge, supernatural understanding concerning what to do with it, and spiritual guidance as you walk it out. This is how we are supposed to live! God never expected us to live a life without His supernatural empowerment. It’s a shame that many Christians get Born-Again, but never truly tap into God. They have God’s Word and His Spirit, but they live completely human lives. There is no difference between them and the world. Don’t let this be said of you!
b) Open your heart to the insight, wisdom, revelation, knowledge and understanding God has made available to you. If you do, you will live an amazing life and you will leave a mark in this world that will bring glory to God’s name.
Closing Confession:
Father, this is a season of expectation for me. My expectation is based on Your Word and Your Spirit. You open my eyes so I can see. Your flood my eyes with light. You reveal, unveil, unpack and unfold Your Word to me. You give me divine understanding. I have a functional understanding of Your Word, to the point where I am able to walk it out. And as I do, You guide me by Your Spirit every step of the way. Living this way, I will change the world. Not by my might or power, but by Your amazing grace! I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
