This morning I continue our series entitled, “Standing on a Word from God.” This is Part 8. We have been looking at the life of Abraham. Let’s go back to it today. We will look at a passage in Genesis 17 and one in chapter 18.
(Gen 17:15-17 NKJV)
Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her.” Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”
(Gen 18:10-12 NKJV)
And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.) Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
So what does this mean to you today? A few things.
- In Genesis 17 the Lord made it clear to Abram that He and Sarai were going to have the baby He promised them. God told Abram to change his name to Abraham, He told him to change Sarai’s name to Sarah, and He also told him what to name the baby. His name was to be Isaac. When Abraham took a moment to process what God was saying, all he could do was laugh. He was not laughing in disrespect. He was laughing in awe of God’s goodness. We serve a God will be SO good to you that He will make you laugh!
- In Genesis 18 the Lord was having a conversation with Abraham in a tent. He reiterated the fact that he and his wife were going to have the promised child. In the previous chapter Abraham laughed (in awe of God’s goodness) at just the thought of it. In this chapter, Sarah was eavesdropping on the conversation abraham was having with God. When she heard what God said she laughed. Sometimes God’s goodness towards us is so amazing that all we can do it laugh, because we know we certainly do not deserve it.
- In Genesis 17 Abraham laughed when he thought to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” In chapter 18 Sarah laughed when she thought to herself, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my husband being old also?” They were laughing because humanly speaking, they were PAST child-bearing age. This was a human impossibility. Abraham’s body (from the waste down) was no longer working. Sarah’s womb had never worked. She could not have babies when she was 18 yrs. old, and now she was 90. But there is nothing too hard for God. God can do the impossible. Your job is to open your heart to it, even if the thought of it makes you laugh :-).
- The Bible says that God’s gifting and His call on your life are irrevocable (Rom 11:29). God will never pull His gift back, no matter what you do. He will never revoke the call He has on your life. If there is air still flowing through your lungs and blood still flowing through your veins, then God is still committed to DO what He said He would DO in your life. You are not too old. It is not too late. The situation is not too hard. God STILL CAN! Even if the thought of Him doing it now, after all these years, makes you laugh, like Abraham and Sarah laughed.
- God is committed to perform every promise He has ever spoken over you. You have not disqualified yourself (because you never qualified in the first place). You are not too old. Your season has not passed. Even if you were delayed, you shall not be denied. God will do what He said He would do in your life! Open up your heart and BELIEVE GOD!
Closing Confession:
Father, this is a season of expectation for me. I open up my heart to Your best. I lift my expectation for the manifestation of Your promises. You will do what You said You would do in my life. I am not too old. I have not disqualified myself. You have not revoked Your gift. You have not taken back Your call. You are STILL going to do ALL You promised, even it the thought of Your goodness makes me laugh. I laugh, like Abraham laughed. I laugh, like Sarah laughed. I laugh in awe of Your overwhelming goodness, kindness, mercy and grace towards me. I serve a God who makes me laugh because He wants to bless me so richly! I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
