Today we continue our series entitled, “Press through it! This morning I want us to look at something Jesus said.
In John chapter 6 Jesus fed 5,000, He walked on water, and He then found Himself in front of a group of followers. They were amazed by the miracles. They knew the Lord was with Jesus. So they asked Jesus a critical question. We will learn from Jesus’ response today. They asked, “What does God want us to do?” Another translation reads, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” Jesus answered, “The work God wants you to do is this: to believe in the one he sent.” (see John 6:28,29).
So what does this mean to you today? It means that we are called believers for a reason. Our work, as Jesus said, is to believe God! So here are a few things to take away from this.
1. We are called believers for a reason. When Jesus was asked, “What does God want us to do?” His response was, “Believe in the one He sent!” Our work is to believe! We are to believe and not doubt, to operate in faith and not fear, to stand and not quit, to get a hold of a promise and never let it go.
2. Jesus was asked, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” Jesus responded by telling them to BELIEVE! Do you want to operate in the supernatural? Do you want to see the power of God released and manifested in your life? Do you want to tap into God’s ability? There is only one way to do it and that is TO BELIEVE GOD!
3. You cannot work for the supernatural, you can only believe for it. The supernatural does not come by human performance. It only comes by faith. It is by faith that you tap into God’s grace.
4. You cannot earn anything from God. The Father already stored up everything you would ever need to complete your divine assignment. He freely gives you all the things He ordained for you to have from the foundations of the world. He does this by grace. It is unearned and mostly undeserved. But while His part is grace, our part is faith. We must believe it is possible and then launch out in faith to attempt the supernatural. Our work is to believe!
5. The point of this series is not just to teach the fact that God wants us to believe and to operate in faith, but to drive home the fact that our heavenly Father wants us to keep on believing until we see (in the natural) what we have already seen (in the spirit). Remember, there is a space between the prayer and the performance of it and in that space we must maintain our belief. We must add patience to our faith! We shall receive if we don’t stop believing!
6. You are called to be a believer and not a doubter. You are called and commanded to walk by faith and not by fear. Your work is to believe. Never allow fear, doubt or unbelief to cause you to miss out on God’s best! Don’t stop believing! You are called a believer for a reason!
Declaration of Faith:
Father, I could never work or earn my way to Your blessing. You freely bless me by Your grace. Your grace is amazing to me. I am so blessed that I want to be a blessing to others. In order to be that blessing and in order for You to flow through me in the way that You desire, I am expected to believe. Therefore, I declare that I will. I am a believer and not a doubter. My work is only to believe and I shall believe every day of my life. I believe You will flow TO me and then THROUGH me daily. I believe You will perform all You have blessed me to SEE in the spirit. Actually, I believe those things are already done and it is only a matter of time before they manifest in the natural. You are not going to do these things because I believe. No, I believe because You have already done them. My work is to believe and my beleive opens the door of my heart to receive Your finished works. I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
