Today I continue our new series entitled, “Power of Fellowship.” The first scripture I ever memorized was Proverbs 3:5,6. Today we will look at this passage from two different translations and discuss it within the context of this series.
(Proverbs 3:5,6 New King James Version)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
(Proverbs 3:5,6 Easy to Read Version)
Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.
So what does this mean to you today? A few things.
1. Solomon was the wisest man in the Bible (whose name is not Jesus). As wise as Solomon was, he told us NOT to trust in or depend on our own understanding. As smart as he was, he understood how far below God’s wisdom man’s is. Which is why Solomon taught us to rely on God for everything. He said, “With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.” This is actually a picture of the fellowship with God we have been studying.
2. Going back to the image I painted for you yesterday: let’s say you walk into a meeting with God the Father on your right side, Jesus on your left side, and the Holy Spirit INSIDE of you. During the meeting you are asked a series of difficult questions. Do you think you would struggle to do “your best” to answer those questions, or would you simply rely on the God who was with you and in you? The answer is simple. Anyone with common sense would rely on God. Well, the image I painted is actually true. You are taking God with you today into every meeting, conversation and activity. The question is: will you rely on God or will you rely on yourself?
3. The Bible says, “Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge.” As much as you think you know, your knowledge will fail you time and time again. God gave you His Word and His Spirit you could rely on Him and His knowledge. Will you? Will you enter this day truly relying on Him? Or will you continue to live ‘life as usual’, doing what you have always done and getting what you have always gotten? God is calling you into a life of true fellowship. Will you answer the call?
4. If God is truly in you, on you, with you and for you (and He is), wouldn’t be a shame if you never talked to Him? Wouldn’t be a shame if you stubbornly struggled your way through life, relying on your own wisdom, when you have access to the wisdom of God? Don’t let this be you. Rely on God, His wisdom, and His power today and every day. To do so you are going to have to spend time with Him. This is the importance of fellowship with God.
5. As you enter this day you do so (if you are Born-Again) with God on the inside. You have a choice. You can lean to your own understanding or you can lean on His. Which way will you lean today?
6. I am sure you have lots of things to do today. We all have more task than time these days. God’s Word tells us to acknowledge Him in ALL of our ways. We should consider God in everything we do. We don’t have to. We are free moral agents. We can choose to do whatever we want. We can live however we want to live. But God is telling us HOW to live. He is telling us HOW to be successful in this world. God gave us His Word and His Spirit. He told us to rely on Him. He has made Himself available to give us advice, to provide us guidance, and to show us the way. If the God of the universe signed up for that type of commitment for you, why would you not take Him up on the offer? The choice is yours!
Declaration of Faith:
Father, I thank You for choosing to take up residence INSIDE of me. You are more committed to me than I am to myself. You were there for me well before I even acknowledged You. I am now Born-Again. You live IN me. You walk with me and I walk with You. You give me access to wisdom, revelation, knowledge and understanding that is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Therefore, I lean not to my own understanding. In ALL my ways I acknowledge You and You direct my path… this day and every day! I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
