This morning we continue our series entitled, “Power of Fellowship.” Yesterday my church was celebrating our 14th Anniversary. We took the time to reflect on 14 years of changing lives. As I sat there, in the midst of my brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ, I began to meditate on the power of us coming together. I know that in 2019 people can watch church services online and they can hear “a Word from God” on YouTube. I get it. But there is something missing when you fail to come together with other believers. God is IN you. But when you come together with other believers, God is also amongst you, and the power in that cannot be replicated on YouTube.
Let’s look at the 133rd Psalm today.
(Psalm 133)
How truly wonderful and delightful to see brothers and sisters coming together as one! It’s as precious as the sacred anointing oil flowing from the head of the high priest Aaron, dripping down upon his beard and running all the way down to the hem of his priestly robes. This heavenly harmony can be compared to the dew dripping down from the skies upon Mount Hermon, refreshing the mountain slopes of Israel. For from this realm of sweet harmony God will release his eternal blessing, the promise of life forever!
So what does this mean to you today? A few things.
1. King David understood the power of fellowship. He knew there was something powerful that happens when brothers and sisters come together as ONE! He referenced the anointing oil that ran down from Aaron’s head throughout His garment. The picture he paints is one of God’s anointing flowing through His body, when the body comes together as ONE. While it is true that ever Born-Again believer is individually anointed, it is also true that there is a corporate anointing that only flows when believers come together as one. If you are failing to come together with other believers, you are missing out on this corporate anointing. Don’t let the devil deceive you into thinking that you don’t need anyone or that you are the church and you can worship all by yourself, at home. You can, but you are missing out on something special. You are missing out on something that only happens when believers come together as ONE!
2. If you are Born-Again, God is IN you. This is true. But when you come together with other believers who also have God INSIDE of them, something happens that does not happen alone. God already dwells IN you, but when you come together He also dwells AMONG you, and the corporate anointing that is released is absolutely powerful. Don’t miss out. Make time to spend time with other believers.
3. Satan is using technology to deceive believers into thinking that they can get all they need online. Watching good preaching on your phone is great. Listening to the Word while you drive to work is beneficial. But don’t mistake preaching for fellowship. There is something that happens when believers come together as ONE that simply does not happen any other way. God created you to be a relational being. He created you to be around others. He put things IN them that you need and things IN you that they need. When we all come together, AS ONE, we lack nothing! This is the power of fellowship.
4. Make a decision right now that while you are always going to make a demand on the anointing that God has placed on your life, you will also come together with other believers so you can make a demand on the corporate anointing that only flows in fellowship. Solomon made it plain when He said, “Two are better than one!” (Ecc 4:9). Moses said it this way, “One can put 1,000 to flight, but if two come together, they can chase 10,000 away!” (Duet 32:30). You need others. Don’t let the devil deceive you into thinking you don’t need anyone else. You are missing out on something special if you fail to come together with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Declaration of Faith:
Father, I am Your child. I was Born-Again into Your family. This means I have brothers and sisters all around the world. I shall connect with them. You are IN me. You are also IN them. You dwell IN us, but when we come together, You dwell AMONGST us. Individually we are anointed. But when we come together there is a corporate anointing that is only released in fellowship. I appreciate my individual anointing, but I refuse to miss out on the corporate anointing. I worship by myself, and I also worship in the presence of my brothers and sisters. I am the church, all by myself, but I also know that something special happens when the church comes together as ONE! I was designed to connect with others and I declare that I will! I am a relational being and I will never allow the devil to deceive me into staying away from my brothers and sisters in Christ. Something special happens when we all come together as ONE, and I need that in my life! I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
