Today, we continue our series entitled “Laser Focus,” with the point being that we should live with a Laser Focus on the Fixed Purpose God established for us before the world began.
We have briefly covered the 20 scriptures I told you I would introduce you to in this series. Before I do a deep dive into each of those 20, I want us to take a closer look at the main scripture we will focus on this year:
(Proverbs 4:25 TPT)
Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions.
Let’s break this down.
So, what does this mean to you today? A few things.
1. Setting Your Gaze on the God-ordained Path.
— Recognize that your life has a specific, God-ordained trajectory.
— If you believe God made plans for you before the world began, you must then obviously make a conscious decision to focus on and follow the path God laid out for you.
— Your gaze should be more than physical sight. The gaze referred to in Proverb 4:25 TPT is a metaphor for aligning your entire being—spirit, soul, body; mind, will, and emotions—with God’s plan.
— The gaze referred to here is not something that you do with your natural eyes. This is what you do with your spirit. Your spirit has the ability to see beyond where your eyes can look.
— You must remain laser-focused on the path God set before you and constantly seek divine guidance to stay aligned with this path, especially when crossroads (decision points) appear.
— Your focus determines your direction, so ensure it’s always set on God’s purpose for your life.
— Embrace this path not as a temporary route but as a lifelong journey with God.
2. The Essence of Fixed Purpose.
— Fixed purpose means unwavering commitment to God’s plan for your life.
— Develop a steadfast heart that does not waver amidst life’s changing circumstances.
— Recognize that fixed purpose is rooted in faith, not in the fluctuating conditions of the world.
— The seen world is temporary and subject to change, while the unseen world is set, eternal, and unchanging (2 Cor 4:18).
— Nurture a deep understanding of your divine calling and know it will never change. God will never change His mind about you. Once you are convinced that God is committed to you and the plans He made for you, you will be more apt to live committed to Him and His plans.
— Fixed purpose involves daily decisions that align with your divine destiny.
— Let your purpose be the filter through which you assess both opportunities and challenges.
— Keeping your gaze on your fixed purpose will reassure (and keep you humble) in good times and empower you to persevere through difficult times.
3. Looking Straight Ahead: The Focus on the Future.
— Looking straight ahead symbolizes focusing on what God has in store for you.
— Avoid the distractions of past regrets or failures. You must even avoid the mistake of resting on your past successes. Your future in God holds greater promises, and you must be focused on that.
— Anticipate the fulfillment of God’s promises with confidence and clarity.
— Keep your eyes on the prize – the ultimate fulfillment of your divine destiny.
— Balancing present responsibilities with future aspirations requires spiritual discernment. The Holy Spirit will help you enjoy your NOW while anticipating your NEXT!
— Your vision for the future should inspire your actions today.
— Future focus nurtures hope and prevents discouragement in challenging times.
— With God, it is: FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
4. Ignoring Life’s Distractions: Maintaining Spiritual Concentration.
— Identify and actively resist distractions that divert you from your divine purpose.
— Understand that distractions can be subtle and often masquerade as good opportunities. What seems good is not always God.
— The devil is a master of deception and distraction. If you shift your focus to His temptations, you risk derailing yourself from your destiny.
— Cultivate spiritual discipline to discern and dismiss what doesn’t align with God’s plan.
— Remember, not every good thing is the God thing for your life.
— Distractions can come in the form of people, places, or even personal desires.
— Regularly recharge your spiritual focus through prayer, meditation, and fellowship with God.
— Stay grounded in the Word of God, as it helps in discerning and prioritizing God’s voice over others.
5. Embracing the Discipline of a Focused Life.
— A focused life is a disciplined life, not swayed by fleeting emotions or trends.
— Develop routines and habits that reinforce your commitment to God’s path.
— Document what God says to you and see it as God’s Word to you. Review this on a regular basis and meditate on every promise God has given you. This will help you remain steadfast and laser-focused.
— Discipline in your spiritual practices (prayer, fasting, studying the Word) is key to maintaining focus.
— Understand that discipline is not just about restriction (or what NOT to do) but about aligning your life with divine priorities. Discipline requires the courage TO DO what God is leading you to do in the face of fear and doubt.
— Embrace the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding and sustaining your focus.
— Ensure your focus on God’s path integrates all aspects of life – spiritual, familial, financial, professional, and personal.
— Celebrate the milestones along your journey. When you celebrate incremental victories, it helps you remain focused on the overall plan!
