Today, we continue our series entitled “Laser Focus,” with the point being that we should live with a Laser Focus on the Fixed Purpose God established for us before the world began.
This is the main scripture we will be looking at this year.
(Proverbs 4:25 TPT)
Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions.
Yesterday, we looked at Ephesians 2:10. This is one of my favorite verses. Let’s go back to it today.
(Ephesians 2:10 ERV)
God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.
So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.
1. Cultivating a Heart Aligned with God’s Intentions.
— Embracing the good works God has designed for us begins with cultivating a heart that is deeply aligned with His intentions and desires. This means that you must grow (or die) to the point where your main desire in life is to fulfill God’s desires for you.
— This alignment is nurtured through intimate moments spent in God’s presence, where His Spirit gently guides our desires to match His own.
— As our hearts become more attuned to God’s voice, we develop a keen sensitivity to recognize the divine assignments He places on our path.
— The process of alignment involves surrendering our personal ambitions and plans, trusting that God’s plans for us are far greater and more fulfilling.
— Cultivating such a heart requires patience and persistence, as it is a journey of constant growth and renewal in the Spirit. Growing in God does not happen overnight, but it will happen daily, if you don’t give up.
— When your heart is aligned with God’s intentions, it is full of peace and contentment, even in the face of uncertainty or when the path ahead seems unclear. You may not know where you are going, but you know who you are following!
— There are divine moments when we know God is speaking and moving, and when we discern those and flow with God during them, it creates in us a desire to live that way every day.
2. A Focused Pursuit of Your Divine Assignment.
— Setting our gaze on the good works God has prepared for us requires a deliberate focus, tuning out distractions, and remaining steadfast in our pursuit (see Prov 4:25 TPT).
— This focused pursuit is about recognizing the divine assignments in our daily lives and dedicating our efforts to fulfilling them with excellence and faithfulness.
— Ignoring life’s distractions means prioritizing our time and energy on what aligns with God’s purpose and making conscious decisions to engage in activities that contribute to our divine calling.
— The clarity of our spiritual vision is enhanced when we immerse ourselves in prayer and the Word, keeping our spiritual eyes fixed on the path God has laid out for us.
— Our calling is calling us daily. Our calling is pulling us into our destiny. The more clearly you can see God’s vision for your life (which requires spending time with Him), the stronger the pull.
— While 2024 will be an amazing year for many, it will also be full of distractions, so we must remain focused. The myriad distractions will test our commitment to walking down God’s path, and we must develop the resolve to stay focused on God’s plan for our lives.
— By maintaining a laser focus on our divine assignments, we will advance personally and we will also impact those around us, leading by example in a world full of distractions and distracted people.
3. Empowered by Grace to Resist Distractions.
— God’s grace not only empowers us to fulfill our divine purpose, but it also provides the resilience needed to withstand and overcome distractions.
— The grace of God also brings wisdom to discern between opportunities that align with our purpose and distractions disguised as opportunities.
— Building a habit of daily surrender to God’s will helps us minimize distractions as we rely on the Holy Spirit to guide our decisions and actions.
— In moments of overwhelm or temptation to veer off course, it’s God’s grace that reminds us of the bigger picture and re-centers our focus on His plan.
— This resilience is a byproduct of understanding our identity in Christ (you know who you are) and the significance of the works He has entrusted to us (you know what you are called to do), compelling us to stay the course.
James said the following, and I believe it applies to this point:
“Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.” (James 5″10,11 MSG)
— God’s grace gives us STAYING POWER!
— Every time we choose to focus on our divine assignments over distractions, we exercise our faith and grow stronger in our spiritual resolve.
— Our resilience against distractions not only propels us forward in our divine purpose but also serves as a testimony to others of the sustaining power of God’s grace.
— Our lives should testify of the STAYING POWER that is possible, not by our strength, but only by God’s grace!
