Learning From the Life of Joseph (Series Recap #1)

by Rick

Today, we continue our series entitled “Laser Focus,” emphasizing living with a Laser Focus on the Fixed Purpose God established for us before the world began.

(Proverbs 4:25 TPT)

Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions.

Scriptures for today:

(James 1:2-4 TPT)

2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!

3 For you know that when your faith is tested, it stirs up power within you to endure all things.

4 And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.

(Ecc 3:1 ERV)

There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time

(Genesis 50:20,21 NKJV)

20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.

21 Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

So, what does this mean for you today?  A few things:

1. Setting the stage.

Joseph’s story spans 13 chapters in the Book of Genesis (Genesis 37-50), making up approximately 25% of the entire first book of the Bible. The fact that God would give Joseph so much real estate in His opening book speaks volumes. This extensive coverage highlights the importance of Joseph’s life and the profound lessons it holds for us today. There are themes and lessons embedded in his story that we should glean from, which is why we have just spent the last three months studying his life. I hope you have enjoyed it.

2.  Reflect on the detailed attention God gives to each of our lives:

— Just as God meticulously documented Joseph’s journey, He is equally attentive to every moment of your life. Trust that nothing escapes God’s attention. He is completely attentive to you and your life’s journey.

— Appreciate the care and precision with which God is helping to orchestrate the events in your life, as He did with Joseph.  This means God is invested in your personal story. Say, “I matter to God and He is invested in me!

— Believe that God sees and values every step you take, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to you. Nothing in your life gets past God. He knows everything about you and is committed to helping you become the man/woman He destined you to be!

3.  Recognize that your life story is significant and has a purpose:

— Joseph’s story reminds us that every life has a divine purpose. Embrace the belief that your life, too, holds great significance in God’s plan.

— Understand that your experiences, both good and bad, contribute to the larger narrative God is weaving in you, with you, through you, and for you.

— Live with the confidence that God is using your story for His glory and the greater good.

— You are not a mistake. God sent you to this planet at just the right time. You were born for such a time as this!

4.  Understand that God is interested in every detail of your journey:

— God’s involvement in Joseph’s life, down to the smallest details, shows His care for our daily experiences. God was with Joseph during the difficult times (during the betrayal, the pit, Potiphar’s house, and the prison) and during the good times (his promotion, his position as Prime Minister, being reunited with his family, hugging his little brother, reconnecting with his father, etc.). God was with Joseph for it all. And as God was with Joseph, so shall He be with you. Rest assured that God is intimately involved in your personal journey.

— Know that God is aware of your struggles, victories, and everything in between, and He has given you the grace to handle them all!

— Take comfort in the fact that God is not distant but is actively leading, guiding, directing, and shaping your life.

— Thank God for His active involvement in you, with you, through you, and for you!

5.  Be encouraged that God has a plan for you, just as He did for Joseph:

— Despite the trials and tribulations Joseph faced, God’s plan for him was unwavering.  Draw strength from knowing that God has a unique and purposeful plan for your life as well.

— Trust that God is leading you towards your destiny, even when the path seems unclear.

— Even when you don’t know where you are going, just keep your eyes on God.  It does not matter if you don’t know where you are going if you know who you are following.  Follow Him! He will never lead you astray.

— Joseph trusted God while he was a slave. Joseph trusted God while he was a prisoner.  Joseph even had to trust God while he was the Prime Minister of Egypt.  So, good or bad, high or low, learn to trust God!

— Rely on God’s promises, as Joseph did with his dream, and know that God is faithful to fulfill His plans for you.

— Like Abraham, you must be fully persuaded that what God promised, He is able also to perform, and that He WILL do it for you!

6.  Know that your challenges are part of a larger divine narrative:

— Joseph’s hardships were stepping stones to a greater purpose. Believe that your current challenges are contributing to a larger, divine narrative that God is weaving for your ultimate good and His glory.

— See your trials as opportunities for growth and development in God’s hands.

— Understand that God uses even the most difficult circumstances to bring about His purposes and to refine your character.

— Trust that God knows what He is doing, even when you don’t understand.

— Understand that God’s plans are greater than your challenges.

— Know that God never promised it would be easy. He just promised to be with you every step of the way!

7.  Trust that God has a purpose for every event in your life.

— From the pit to the palace, God orchestrated every moment to fulfill His plan. Nothing was wasted; every trial prepared Joseph for his ultimate role in God’s grand plan.

— Reflect on the belief that every event in your life is part of God’s larger plan for you.

— Seek God’s perspective on your circumstances, understanding that He is using them to refine and prepare you.

— When things are painful (unless you are reaping a bad harvest on bad seed), you can rest in the fact that God is not punishing you; He is preparing you for what He prepared for you!

— Embrace the assurance that nothing in your life is accidental; God has a purpose for it all.

8.  Believe that your trials can be transformed into

triumphs.

— Hold on to the hope that God can turn your worst trials into your greatest triumphs, but you must learn to persevere as Joseph did.

— Maintain faith and perseverance, knowing that even in the darkest times, God is still working!

— Remember that your current suffering is temporary and can lead to greater victories.

— Trust that God’s power is perfected in your weakness, turning your hardships into testimonies of His glory.

— Encourage others by sharing how God has transformed your trials into triumphs.

9.   See your life as a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

— Despite the many adversities he faced, Joseph’s story ended in triumph and fulfillment of God’s promises. His life serves as an enduring testament to the faithfulness of God.

— In the end, it all worked out for Joseph, and if you keep walking with God, it will all work out for you!

— View your life as a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and grace.

— Trust in God’s faithfulness to complete the good work He has started in you.

— Be encouraged that, like Joseph, your life will showcase God’s unwavering commitment to His promises.
