Today, we continue our series entitled “Laser Focus,” emphasizing living with a Laser Focus on the Fixed Purpose God established for us before the world began.
(Proverbs 4:25 TPT)
Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions.
Scriptures for today:
(James 1:2-4 TPT)
2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!
3 For you know that when your faith is tested, it stirs up power within you to endure all things.
4 And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.
(Ecc 3:1 ERV)
There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time
(Read 1 Samuel 16:1-13)
Setting the Stage.
David’s life is a grace case from start to finish. This young man was minding his own business, going about his daily routine, tending to sheep, not knowing that God was about to change his life forever when one of his brothers ran out to get him in the field. I could imagine the conversation. It probably went something like, “David, hurry up, you need to get home right away. There is a prophet in our home and he is looking to do something with one of us. He already looked at each of us and now he is waiting on you.” When David arrived, still smelling like sheep, the prophet anointed David’s head with oil in an informal yet significant ceremony. The Bible says, “From that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power” (1 Sam. 16:13). David then became known as an “anointed one” or “the LORD’s anointed.”
From that moment on, David was God’s designated leader for the nation of Israel. What had David done to deserve this honor? Nothing. Apparently, his family agreed because they didn’t even invite him to his own coronation. Besides this, historically, a new king had to be the son of an old king. Jesse was no king, and David was no prince. This was not a natural selection but rather a spiritual one. David’s selection was not a birthright. It was a divine appointment.
David was not selected because he earned it; he was selected by grace and grace alone. God picked David, even though he was not from the right family. God picked David, even though he was the youngest of Jesse’s boys. God picked David, even though he did not do anything special to deserve it. God chose David by grace. Guess what? He did the same with you!
As soon as the impromptu coronation ceremony was over, you would think that the clouds would open up, that there would be a voice from heaven, or that the prophet Samuel would escort David to the palace so he could take over the throne of Saul. None of that happened. The prophet left, David rubbed the oil off his forehead, his brothers returned to whatever they were doing, and David returned to his sheep. None of them could truly understand what had just happened. God had transitioned the power for national leadership from Saul to David in the spirit realm. Still, naturally speaking, it would take 13 years before David would become the King of Judah and another seven years after that for him to become the King of a unified Israel. David had to wait faithfully and patiently for 20 long years to receive in his hands what the Lord had already done in his heart.
So, what does this mean to you today? A few things:
1. David did nothing to earn or deserve his assignment as king, and we did not earn our assignment either. God called us by His providence and grace.
Just as David was anointed without having done anything to earn it, we, too, are called by God’s grace. David’s selection was a divine appointment, not based on his lineage or actions but solely on God’s grace.
How this applies to you:
— Teaching people to understand God’s grace and our requirement to live by faith is the foundation of my teaching ministry becuase I believe God’s grace is the foundation of our divine assignment.
— Reflect on the fact that God’s calling on your life is by His grace, not your merit.
— Embrace the truth that you are chosen by God for a specific purpose, regardless of your background.
— Live with gratitude for God’s unmerited favor in your life.
— Rest in the assurance that God’s plan for you is not based on your qualifications but on His divine will.
— Your life, like David’s, is a grace case!
2. A promise from God is a revelation of something from your future, in your present, designed to help you build up the desire for it and motivate you to make decisions that will take you down the path to it (also known as faith).
God revealed to David that he was anointed to be the next King of Israel. This revelation was meant to inspire and guide David’s actions, aligning him with God’s plan.
How this applies to you:
— Recognize that God’s promises are glimpses of your future meant to inspire and guide you.
— When God gives you a promise, He is literally reaching into the future He planned for you and revealing it to you now, in the present, as a source of strength, peace, and motivation. He is telling you what you need to know so you can make decisions that will take you down the path to your destiny.
— Allow these promises to motivate you to make faith-filled decisions.
— God’s part is grace; our part is faith. God reveals the plans He made for you by grace. In response, you are supposed to live by faith to lay hold of what God revealed.
— Understand that faith involves actively aligning with God’s revealed will for your life.
— Live every day with an expectation that God’s promises for your life shall come to pass in His timing.
3. There are divine moments when the Father will deposit something on you or inside of you, like he did with David, that will keep you until the time comes for God to manifest what He promised. In other words, the anointing equips you to endure until the time comes, and when the time comes, the anointing will be there to empower you to do it.
David was anointed to be the King of Israel from that day, but he had to wait 20 years for that to come to pass. The anointing he received equipped him for the journey ahead.
How this applies to you:
— Trust that God’s anointing equips you to endure the waiting period until His promises are fulfilled.
— Recognize that divine deposits in your life are meant to sustain and empower you.
— Be patient, knowing that God’s timing is perfect.
— Understand that the anointing will not just equip you to wait on God’s timing but also empower you to fulfill God’s promises when the time comes.
— Stay faithful, embracing the grace to endure until you see the manifestation of God’s promises.
4. In the space between the promise (in your heart) and the performance (in your hands), you must embrace the grace to be faithful and patient. Not because you are trying to earn it (because you are not), but because you are required to hold on long enough to see what God said without giving up before your season comes.
David never gave up on the promise God gave him, even though it took 20 years to come to pass. He remained faithful and patient, trusting in God’s timing.
How this applies to you:
— Embrace the grace to be faithful and patient during the waiting period.
— Understand that you are not trying to earn God’s promises but simply holding on to them.
— Trust that God’s timing is perfect. God will bring His promises to pass in your life during the appointed season and the right time.
— Stay committed to God’s word, even when it seems like nothing is happening, because God is always working.
— Believe that your season of fulfillment will come, and you will see what God promised because God cannot lie! If God said it, He shall perform it. If He declared it, He will make it good (Num 23:19).
Declaration of Faith:
Father, I thank You for making plans for me before the foundations of the world.
I acknowledge that You were thinking of me long before I ever knew You.
Even when I went my own way, ignoring You, Your grace and mercy pursued me relentlessly.
You blessed me and saved me by Your amazing grace, and now I live with a heart full of gratitude.
Thank You for depositing divine promises in my heart, giving me hope and a vision for my future.
I trust in Your timing, knowing that what You have spoken will come to pass in due season.
Your anointing equips me to endure the wait and empowers me to fulfill my divine assignment.
I embrace the grace to remain faithful and patient, holding on to Your promises without wavering.
I live with the assurance that I am chosen, anointed, and appointed by You, not by my merit but by Your grace.
Living this way, I know GREATER IS COMING FOR ME! I declare this by faith, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
