From Pitfalls to Platforms

by Rick

Today, we continue our series entitled “Laser Focus,” emphasizing living with a Laser Focus on the Fixed Purpose God established for us before the world began.

(Proverbs 4:25 TPT)

Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions.

Scriptures for today:

(James 1:2-4 TPT)

2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!

3 For you know that when your faith is tested, it stirs up power within you to endure all things.

4 And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.

(Ecc 3:1 ERV)

There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time

Setting the Stage.  (From 1 Samuel 18:19-27)

This passage shows David navigating treacherous waters as he serves in King Saul’s court. Despite David’s loyalty and military leadership, Saul’s jealousy was at a high point. The king, driven by fear and insecurity, devises a plan he hopes will lead to David’s death. Saul offers his younger daughter Michal in marriage to David but with a deadly catch – a requirement to bring him 100 Philistine foreskins. This demand is not just unreasonable; it’s designed to put David in danger. Saul wanted David dead and out of the picture.

Yet, what Saul intended harm for David, God kept using David for His glory. Empowered by God’s grace and favor, David not only met but exceeded the challenge, presenting 200 foreskins to the king. So, he was given the king’s daughter to be his wife, he became a prince of Israel, and his life had changed forever.  David was already popular, but he became even more popular after marrying the king’s daughter.

While Saul was scheming to have him killed, God was using every scheme of the enemy as stepping stones to take David higher and higher. God can do the same with and for you!

So, what does this mean to you today?  A few things.

1. Recognizing Divine Opportunities in Disguise.

What appeared to be a dangerous political game orchestrated by Saul was actually a divine setup for David’s advancement.  God often presents opportunities cloaked in challenges. To be clear, Saul meant it for evil, but God turned it around for David’s good.

How this applies to you:

— Train your spiritual eyes to see God’s hand in unexpected situations.

— If you keep your heart OPEN, you will discern possibilities in situations that were designed to be pitfalls for you.

— Look beyond the surface of challenging situations to discern God’s hidden opportunities.

— Embrace challenges as potential stepping stones to your destiny.

— Trust that God can use even your adversaries’ plans for your benefit. He can turn them around for your good!

— Remain open to unconventional paths that may lead to your destiny. Before the prophet showed up in his house, David would have never imagined how his life would change in just a short span of time. So, be OPEN to God and His plans.

— Cultivate a mindset that seeks God’s purpose in every situation, no matter how difficult it may seem.

— God can prevent, and He can permit. There is a divine purpose connected to whatever He permits. (Side note: Bad things do happen to good people because of bad seeds that were sown. Do not imply that God permitted suffering when you know you are reaping what you have sown. There is a difference).

2. Turning Potential Pitfalls into Platforms for Success.

What Saul intended as a deadly trap for David became a means for his increased honor and influence in Israel.  This demonstrates how God can turn potential pitfalls into platforms for advancement.

How this applies to you:

— Trust that God can transform obstacles into opportunities for your growth and success.

— Maintain a positive, faith-filled perspective even in seemingly negative situations. Look at every situation through the lens of faith!

— Be prepared for God to use unconventional means to elevate you. Your path to promotion may not look like everyone else’s, and that’s okay.

— Stay alert to how God might be positioning you through challenging circumstances.???????????????? Just because the situation is difficult does not mean God is not in it! God never promised it would be easy!

3. Navigating Jealousy and Opposition with Grace.

David faced intense jealousy and opposition from Saul, yet he responded with grace and continued to serve faithfully. His actions demonstrate how to handle adversity and opposition in a God-honoring way.

How this applies to you:

— Respond to jealousy and opposition with grace rather than retaliation, knowing that God is both your defense and the ultimate judge. He will make sure people reap what they have sown. That’s not your job.

— Continue to excel in your duties, even when others try to undermine you. Persevere through the attacks.

— Trust God to vindicate you rather than taking matters into your own hands. God will bless you despite them.

— Use opposition as an opportunity to demonstrate Christ-like character.

— Remember that how you handle adversity can be a powerful testimony to others. People are watching, even when you don’t realize they are watching.

4. Discerning God’s Will in Complex Situations.

David had to navigate a complex political and personal situation, discerning whether marrying Michal was part of God’s plan or a dangerous trap. This scenario highlights the importance of seeking God’s guidance in all life decisions, especially difficult and complex ones.

How this applies to you:

— Seek God’s wisdom diligently when facing complex decisions.

— Spend time with the Holy Spirit. He will lead you and show you what to do.

— Be aware that God’s will may sometimes involve challenging or risky situations.  The Holy Spirit may lead you down a path that is more difficult and possibly even more dangerous.  But the good news is that you are not alone. God will be with you every step of the way.

— Learn to balance prudence with faith when discerning God’s direction. Sometimes, the prudent, pragmatic, or safe path is the one God tells you to avoid. So, just be led by God and have the faith to walk through the doors He opens. David required faith to go out and kill 200 men, but he did it because he was led to.

— Recognize that personal desires (like love) and divine purpose can intersect. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit will lead you into the most pleasant circumstances. It’s not always going to be hard.

— Trust that God can provide clarity even in the most convoluted situations.

Declaration of Faith:

Father, I thank You for Your sovereign control over every aspect of my life, including the challenges I face.

I declare that Your divine opportunities are hidden within every difficulty, and I have the spiritual discernment to recognize them.

I choose to respond to opposition and jealousy with grace, knowing that my character is being refined for Your glory.

You are transforming every potential pitfall in my life into a platform for my success and advancement in Your kingdom.

I trust in Your wisdom to guide me through complex situations, balancing prudence with faith as I follow Your lead.

Your strength empowers me to excel in my duties, even when others may try to undermine me.

I rest in the assurance that what others may intend for harm, You are using for my good and Your glory.

I am alert and prepared for the unconventional ways You might be positioning me for greatness through current challenges.

Living this way, I declare that GREATER IS COMING FOR ME, as I align myself with Your divine purpose and plan.

I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!

This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!????????????????
