Why You Need a Righteousness Conscious

by Rick

Today we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.

Key scriptures for this year:

2 Corinthians? ?9?:?8? ?TPT??

“Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything —every moment and in every way. He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do.”

??

??Galatians? ?5?:?4? ?TPT??

“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace!”

Romans? ?6?:?14? ?ERV??

“Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law. You now live under God’s grace.”

??

1 Corinthians? ?15?:?10? ?NIV??

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

Additional scriptures for today:

2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Romans 5:17 NKJV

For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:16 KJV

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Setting the stage:

Many believers struggle to walk in faith because they are not truly conscious of the righteousness Jesus died to provide them. They are more sin-conscious and performance-conscious than they are righteousness-conscious. When you know you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, you can boldly approach God’s throne of grace without feeling condemned or unworthy.  This is critical because the Bible teaches us to approach God boldly (with confidence, in faith, without a doubt) so that we may obtain mercy and the grace to help in the time of need.

You will never approach God boldly if you are relying on your performance to make you right with Him.  The way you approach God with boldness is by settling the issue of your righteousness.  Your righteousness is not based on your performance but on Jesus’ finished work.  This understanding is critical because, without it, you will never be able to believe God on the level He has called you to operate in. Today, we will learn how to live righteousness-conscious in a performance-based world.

So, what does this mean to you today?  A few things:

1. Understanding Your Righteous Position in Christ.

Many believers struggle to walk and live by faith because they don’t understand their righteous position in Christ. They think righteousness is something they must earn or achieve through good works.  But righteousness is not achieved; it is received. When Jesus went to the cross, He took your sin and gave you His righteousness.  This divine exchange happened because of God’s grace, and you access it through faith.  Now, your righteousness is not based on what you do but on what Jesus has already done.

How this applies to you:

— You are righteous because of what Jesus did, not what you do.

— Your righteousness is a gift received by faith, not earned by works.

— You were made righteous the moment you accepted Jesus as Lord.

— God sees you through the finished work of Jesus.

— Your righteousness has nothing to do with your performance.

— You can never be “more righteous” by doing good or “less righteous” by making mistakes.

— Your righteousness is as permanent as Jesus’ righteousness because the righteousness you have comes from Him.

— When you are righteousness-conscious, you can boldly exercise your faith to access God’s grace without feeling unworthy or disqualified.

— When you are law-conscious or sin-conscious, you become susceptible to guilt, shame, and condemnation.

— Once condemnation sets in, your natural tendency is to run from God instead of to Him.  This is exactly what Adam did in the Garden. But when you know you are the righteousness of God in Christ, you run TO God, not FROM Him, even when you make mistakes.

— Your righteousness consciousness removes every barrier between you and God’s grace.

2. Living Righteousness Conscious Instead of Sin Conscious.

Religion has conditioned many believers to be more conscious of their sins than their righteousness in Christ. They live focused on their failures instead of their righteous position in Jesus. This sin-consciousness creates a barrier between them and God, making it difficult to receive from Him by faith.  You must become more conscious of who you are in Christ than who you were in Adam.

The Bible says that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But at its core, faith is about confidence in God. When you allow guilt, shame, and condemnation to strip you of your confidence, you simultaneously strip yourself of your ability to exercise faith.  This is why the enemy works so hard to keep believers in condemnation – because a believer without confidence is a believer who cannot access what grace has already provided.

How this applies to you:

— Your conscience needs to be educated about your righteous position.

— Your righteousness consciousness will determine your level of faith and your ability to receive from God.

— Sin consciousness leads to guilt, which paralyzes faith. But righteousness consciousness produces confidence that enables faith to flow freely.

— The more righteousness-conscious you are, the bolder you become.

— Stop focusing on your flaws and start focusing on your righteousness in Christ.

— Being sin-conscious keeps you in bondage to performance-based living.

— Righteousness consciousness liberates you to believe God for greater things.

— Don’t let past mistakes make you feel unworthy of God’s best.

— Your righteousness is maintained by faith, not by works.

— The more righteousness-conscious you are, the easier it is to exercise faith to tap into God’s grace.

— Sin consciousness blocks faith; righteousness consciousness releases it.

— Condemnation strips you of the confidence you need to exercise faith.

— When you know you are righteous in Christ, you maintain the confidence required to walk by faith.

3. Grace Makes You Righteous and Empowers You to Live Righteous.

Grace operates in two dimensions regarding righteousness.  First, grace makes you righteous – this is your position in Christ. Second, grace empowers you to live righteously – this is your practice through Christ.  Many believers miss this dual operation of grace. They try to live righteously through their own strength instead of allowing grace to empower their righteous living.  When you understand that grace both positions you and empowers you, righteous living becomes natural rather than forced.

How this applies to you:

— Grace first makes you righteous, then teaches you to live righteously.

— Your righteous living flows from your righteous position, not the other way around!

— You don’t live right to become righteous; you live right because you are righteous.

— Grace empowers you to live above sin without the pressure of The Law.

— Grace delivers you from sin-consciousness and performance-based living.

— The more grace-conscious you are, the more righteously you will live.

— Living righteously becomes natural when you know who you are.

— Your righteous position gives you the confidence to exercise faith.

— Grace flows most freely through those who know they are righteous in Christ.

— When you understand your righteousness is a gift from God, you can confidently exercise faith to access more of His grace and experience His best.

4. Your Righteousness Consciousness Determines How Effective You Walk and Live by Faith.

Your ability to believe God is directly tied to your consciousness of your righteousness in Christ.  If you feel unworthy or condemned, your faith will be limited. But when you know you are as righteous as Jesus is righteous (because you have His righteousness), your faith will flow like a river.  This is why the enemy works so hard to keep believers sin-conscious and feeling unworthy.  He knows that a righteousness-conscious believer is an unstoppable believer.

It’s very difficult to walk and live by faith without being righteousness-conscious. Why? Because faith requires confidence, and you cannot be confident while feeling condemned.  This is why Paul said in Romans 8:1, ‘There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.’  The moment you accept condemnation is the moment you forfeit your ability to walk by faith. But when you know you are righteous in Christ, you maintain the confidence required to access everything grace has already provided.

How this applies to you:

— You will never believe bigger than your revelation of God’s grace and your gift of righteousness.

— You can only receive from God what you believe you qualify for in Christ.

— Being righteousness-conscious removes limitations from your faith because your capacity to believe is decoupled from your ability to perform.

— When you know you are righteous, you pray differently.

— Faith works by love (Gal 5:6). This does not mean that your faith will be strong when you love everyone perfectly. It actually means that your faith will be strong when you are convinced that God loves YOU! Your faith works by knowing you are righteous through Christ.

— Condemnation kills faith; righteousness consciousness builds it.

— Righteousness consciousness is the foundation for faith that accesses grace.

— You cannot consistently exercise faith while feeling condemned.

— Guilt, shame, and condemnation are faith-killers because they make you feel unworthy to receive from God. But when you know you are righteous in Christ, your faith can access everything grace has provided.

Declaration of Faith:

Father, I thank You for making me the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

I declare that my righteousness is based on what Jesus did, not on what I do or what I fail to do.

I walk in bold confidence, knowing I am as righteous as Jesus is righteous.

I reject condemnation and embrace my righteous position in Christ.

Your grace has made me righteous and empowers me to live righteously.

I am more conscious of my righteousness in Christ than my past failures.

My faith flows freely because I know who I am in Christ Jesus.

I approach Your throne boldly, knowing I am covered by the Blood of Your Son, I am filled with Your Spirit, and i am called by Your name!

I receive everything You have for me because I am righteous through Christ.

I enter this day living THE GRACE LIFE, where righteousness reigns, and faith flourishes!

GREATER IS COMING FOR ME because my life IS ALL ABOUT YOU!

I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

This is Today’s Word! Apply it and prosper!
