Grace Makes Us Free From Sin’s Power

by Rick

Today we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.

Key scriptures for this year:

2 Corinthians? ?9?:?8? ?TPT??

“Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything—every moment and in every way. He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do.”

??

??Galatians? ?5?:?4? ?TPT??

“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace!”

Romans? ?6?:?14? ?ERV??

“Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law. You now live under God’s grace.”

??

1 Corinthians? ?15?:?10? ?NIV??

“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”

Additional scriptures for today:

Today we will look at Galatians 5:16 from three different translations:

Galatians 5:16 TPT

“As you yield freely and fully to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self-life.”

Galatians 5:16 ERV

“So I tell you, live the way the Spirit leads you. Then you will not do the evil things your sinful self wants.”

Galatians 5:16 Phillips

“Here is my advice. Live your whole life in the Spirit and you will not satisfy the desires of your lower nature.”

Setting the Stage:

Many Christians misunderstand God’s grace, thinking it’s a license to sin or simply forgiveness when we do sin. But this misses the power of what Jesus accomplished. When Adam sinned, humanity lost direct connection with God through His Spirit.  This led to the need for The Law – external rules that actually stirred up sin consciousness and proved our inability to live holy through human effort. But God had a better plan.

Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He did more than forgive sin – He restored the Holy Spirit to mankind.  This is a major aspect of God’s grace that many believers don’t understand. When you are Born-Again, God’s Spirit comes to live inside of you.  The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now lives in you!  This means you are not just forgiven of sin; you are empowered to live free from sin’s dominion.  The Holy Spirit leads you to live a life that is pleasing to God, not by following external rules, but by responding to His internal guidance.  This is grace – not permission to sin, but supernatural power to live free from sin’s control.

So, what does this mean to you today?  A few things.

1. Grace Restores What Adam Lost.

(Romans 8:2 NIV)

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

God’s grace, through Jesus’ finished work, restored the Holy Spirit to mankind.  When you’re Born-Again, you receive the same Spirit that lived in Adam before the fall.  Where The Law could only point out sin, the Holy Spirit empowers you to live above sin. Grace isn’t permission to sin; it’s power to live free from sin’s dominion.

How this applies to you:

— You are empowered by grace to live holy, not by your effort but by His Spirit.

— The Holy Spirit guides you away from sin and into God’s perfect will.

— Grace gives you power over sin, not permission to sin.

— You can live holy naturally because the Holy Spirit lives in you.

Your focus is on God’s presence, not on avoiding sin.

— Sin has no power over you because grace empowers you through the Spirit.

— The more time you spend with the Holy Spirit, the more you learn to discern His voice, and you let Him guide you, the more your consciousness will be free from even the thought of sin.

— When your focus every day is doing what God is leading you to do, you don’t even think about sin. You are too focused on walking with God to think about anything else.

— This is why Paul said, “So I tell you, live the way the Spirit leads you. Then you will not do the evil things your sinful self wants.” (Gal 5:16).

— When you’re facing critical business decisions, you can rely on the Holy Spirit’s guidance rather than just current market analytics or human wisdom.

— In the workplace, you can experience supernatural peace and clarity because once you dedicate your business or department to the Lord, the Holy Spirit is your partner, and He will lead you in the way you should go.

2. The Inside-Out Power of Grace.

(Ezekiel 36:26-27 NIV)

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you… And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees.”

(Phil 2:13 NLT)

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Grace does more than forgive sin – it provides the internal power to live free from sin. Under The Law, people struggled to obey external rules. Under grace, the Holy Spirit works from within, giving both the desire and power to live godly.

How this applies to you:

— The Holy Spirit empowers you to desire what God desires.

— Grace works from the inside out, transforming your wants and wishes.

— The Holy Spirit aligns your desires with God’s desires, making obedience a delight rather than a duty.

— You live holy because you want to, not because you have to.

— The Spirit gives you the power to fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

When you walk with the Holy Spirit, your obedience flows from love, not from fear of punishment.

— God’s grace makes holy living natural, not burdensome. Like Ezekiel said, you are “moved” to do it. You want to please God.

— The Holy Spirit’s presence in your heart makes godly living possible and enjoyable. It’s not a task or a chore; it is a pleasure that flows from your heart because your heart is filled with God’s heart.

— Even in high-pressure business meetings, the Holy Spirit can give you the right words at the right time, helping you maintain integrity while being effective.

3. Grace Empowers Holy Living.

(Titus 2:11-14 NIV)

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.  It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age… and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Don’t mistake grace for a license to sin. Grace is God’s power to live above sin.  Through the Holy Spirit, grace teaches us to reject ungodliness and to live upright lives.  This isn’t about trying harder; it’s about yielding to the Holy Spirit who empowers holy living.

How this applies to you:

— You can live victoriously because the Holy Spirit lives in you.

Grace empowers you to say no to sin and yes to righteousness.

— The Holy Spirit teaches you how to live a life pleasing to God.

— You are equipped by grace to overcome every temptation.

— God’s Spirit leads you into paths of righteousness.

— Grace makes your inner man stronger than sin’s pull on your life.

— Because of the Holy Spirit, you can experience freedom from sin’s power and live holy every day.

— In challenging business negotiations, grace empowers you to maintain God’s ethical standards without compromising to achieve success the world’s way.

As a believer, you know that whatever you compromise to get, you will have to compromise to keep. So, the Holy Spirit keeps you from compromising your values.

4. Living The Spirit-Empowered Life.

(Galatians 5:22-23 NIV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

The grace-filled life is a Spirit-led life.  As you yield to the Holy Spirit, He produces His fruit in your life naturally.  This isn’t about keeping rules; it’s about staying connected to the Spirit who produces godly character effortlessly.

How this applies to you:

— The Holy Spirit produces godly character without your striving.

— Grace enables you to bear spiritual fruit naturally.

— You can live above sin by staying yielded to the Spirit.

— God’s power flows through you as you remain connected to Him.

— The Spirit transforms you from the inside out.

— You don’t have to fight sin when you simply focus on following the Holy Spirit every day.

— Your daily morning quiet time (in your prayer closet or during your commute) gives you a chance to connect with the Holy Spirit and receive divine downloads for the day ahead.

— As you are led by the Holy Spirit, your grace-based leadership style is so different from the “dog eat dog” ways of the world that people will beg to be on your team.

Those on your team love working for you because your vision is clear, your standards are high, and you create a climate where people can thrive!  See, the Holy Spirit does not just empower you to live holy; He transforms every area and aspect of your life.
