Today we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.
As part of this series, I am teaching you how to pray from a position of God’s grace.
Key scriptures for this year:
2 Corinthians? ?9?:?8? ?TPT??
“Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything—every moment and in every way. He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do.”
??
??Galatians? ?5?:?4? ?TPT??
“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace!”
Romans? ?6?:?14? ?ERV??
“Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law. You now live under God’s grace.”
??
1 Corinthians? ?15?:?10? ?NIV??
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”
Additional scriptures for today:
Matthew 16:19 AMPC
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.”
Luke 10:19 NKJV
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Ephesians 2:6 NIV
“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
Setting the Stage:
So far, in our study of grace-based prayer, we’ve learned about praying from a position of grace rather than need, aligning our prayers with heaven, accessing God’s power, and much more. Today, we will discuss the authority we have in prayer.
Many believers pray without understanding the authority they’ve been given. They approach God as beggars rather than as sons and daughters who have been delegated divine authority. I mentioned this a few days ago, but I want to drive home the point today. Let’s get into it.
So, what does this mean to you today? A few things.
1. Your Authority Comes from Your Position in Christ.
Your authority in prayer doesn’t come from your personal goodness or spiritual achievements. Let’s be clear. Your authority does not come from your performance; it comes from your position in Christ. When you are Born-Again, you are placed “in Christ” and seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).
How this applies to you:
— Your authority is not something you earn; it’s something you inherit as a child of God. Just as a police officer’s authority comes from their position (the badge), not their personal power, your spiritual authority comes from your position in Christ.
— Your spiritual authority extends over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). Nothing can harm you when you understand and walk in this authority.
— When you pray with authority, you’re not trying to convince God to act; you’re exercising the authority He’s already given you to enforce His will on earth.
— The same authority that Jesus walked in during His earthly ministry is available to you today. Jesus said, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21).
— Your authority in prayer is not affected by your feelings or circumstances. It’s a constant reality based on your unchanging position in Christ.
— The enemy will try to make you doubt your authority, just as he did with Jesus in the wilderness. Standing firm in your authority requires knowing what God’s Word says about your position in Christ.
— You don’t pray hoping God will back your words; you pray knowing He has already delegated His authority to you. The authority was given to you the moment you were Born-Again. Now, just as a police officer (who has been given the badge) has to comply with the law, a believer (who has been given authority) has to understand how to use it within the confines of God’s system. This is what you are learning in this series.
2. Prayer is Earth Welcoming Heavenly Interference.
In the system God established, humans have domain authority in the earth. Prayer is how we invite and invoke heaven to intervene in earthly situations.
How this applies to you:
— Prayer is not begging God to get involved; it’s exercising your God-given authority to invoke and invite His involvement. God has chosen to work through human vessels. He is looking for your cooperation and agreement.
— The keys Jesus gave us (Matthew 16:19) represent authority to permit (loose) and prevent (bind) things in the earth realm. These keys don’t make things happen in heaven; they allow what’s already established in heaven to manifest on earth.
— Prayer is how earth comes into alignment with heaven. Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
— Your prayers are not informing God of situations He doesn’t know about. Rather, they are coming in agreement with heaven, from the earth. Heaven is looking for earthly agreement to intervene in situations where human free will is involved.
— Prayer is how you cooperate with God’s purposes. Throughout scripture, God sought human cooperation to accomplish His will—Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and many others.
— When you don’t pray, you may be actually blocking God’s intervention in situations that require your authority and agreement. This is why scripture says, “You have not because you ask not” (James 4:2).
— God respects the system of authority He established. He will not violate human free will, which is why prayer—your willful invitation—is so important.
3. God Has Chosen to Work Through Human Agreement.
God is God. He can do whatever He wants. But from what we see in scripture, though He is all-powerful and could do whatever He wants, He has chosen to work through human vessels, establishing a system that requires our agreement and cooperation.
How this applies to you:
— If God did whatever He wanted without a human, the entire system He created (that runs on cause and effect, sowing and reaping, and the free will of humans) would fall apart.
— If God forced you to worship Him, then it would not be true worship because it would not be coming from your heart. True worship is a voluntary response to God’s grace.
— If God forced you to give to His projects, it would not be a sacrifice for you because it would not be something you chose to do. God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7), not one who gives under compulsion.
— If God forced you to repent of your sin and accept Jesus as Lord, then HE would be picking who goes to heaven and who goes to hell! The beauty of salvation is that it’s a free choice available to “whosoever will” (Revelation 22:17).
— If God forced you to pray, to ask Him for things, or to petition for His involvement, then He would be basically agreeing with Himself because the petitions were not birthed in your heart.
— Your authority in prayer honors this divine setup. God waits for your agreement because He values your free will and partnership in His divine purposes.
— The bottom line is that while God can do whatever He wants because He is God, He has chosen to allow humans to run this planet. He has given us dominion (Genesis 1:26-28) and expects us to exercise the authority He’s granted us through prayer.
4. You Must Exercise Your Authority with Confidence.
Having authority is one thing; using it effectively is another. Many believers have authority they never exercise because of doubt, fear, or ignorance.
How this applies to you:
— 1 John 5:14-15 gives us the secret to confident prayer: “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” This is a powerful promise that fundamentally changes how we pray.
— When you pray according to God’s will, you can have complete confidence that He not only hears you but that you already have what you’ve asked for. This is grace-based authority in action!
— Grace gives you the confidence to exercise your authority without fear of rejection or failure. When you know your authority doesn’t depend on your performance, you are free to attempt things in faith and pray without the fear of failure. You are only doing so because you believe it to be God’s will.
— Speaking with authority means praying decisive, Word-based, faith-filled prayers rather than uncertain, tentative ones. This doesn’t mean being arrogant; it means being confident in who God is and what He’s called you to do.
— Jesus modeled this when He commanded storms to be still and demons to depart.
He didn’t ask politely; He exercised assertive authority.
— The centurion understood authority when he said to Jesus, “Speak the word only, and my servant will be healed” (Matthew 8:8). Jesus marveled at his faith—faith that understood authority.
— Using your authority effectively requires knowing God’s Word, which reveals His will. When you pray in line with His revealed will, you can pray with absolute confidence.
— The more you exercise your authority in small matters, the more confidence you’ll have when facing bigger challenges. Authority, like faith, grows with use.
— 1 John 5:14-15 removes all uncertainty from our prayers. When we pray according to God’s will, we don’t have to wonder if He heard us or if He’ll answer. We can know with certainty that we already have what we’ve asked for, even before we see physical manifestation.
That’s enough for today.
Declaration of Faith:
Father, I thank You for the authority You’ve given me in Christ Jesus to represent Your Kingdom on earth.
I declare that I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, positioned to exercise divine authority in my prayers.
I use the keys of the Kingdom to bind what heaven forbids and to loose what heaven permits in my life and sphere of influence.
My prayers are not begging petitions but authoritative invitations for Your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
I reject doubt, fear, and timidity in my prayer life, choosing instead to pray with the confidence that comes from knowing my position in Christ and I pray Your Word!
I pray to You, the prayers You have already prayed over me. Iin this way, I exercise authority and provide agreement.
I am now walking in unprecedented authority while living THE GRACE LIFE in 2025, and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!
I declare this by faith, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
This is Today’s Word! Apply it and prosper!
