Grace in Galatians (Part 67): You Are Children of Abraham Through Faith

by Rick

Today, we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.

As part of this series, I am teaching a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Galatians.

Key scriptures for this year:

2 Corinthians 9:8 TPT
“Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything—every moment and in every way. He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do.”

Galatians 5:4 TPT
“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace!”

Romans 6:14 ERV
“Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law. You now live under God’s grace.”

1 Corinthians 15:10 CEV
“But God treated me with undeserved grace! He made me what I am, and his grace wasn’t wasted. I worked much harder than any of the other apostles, although it was really God’s grace at work and not me.”

Scripture(s) we will study today:

Galatians 3:7 TPT

“Faith, then, is what makes the children of Abraham.”

Galatians 3:7 NIV

“Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.”

Galatians 3:7 ERV

“So you should know that the true children of Abraham are those who have faith.”

Romans 9:8 TPT

“This confirms that it is not merely the natural offspring of Abraham who are considered the children of God; rather, the children born because of God’s promise are counted as descendants.”

Setting the Stage:

For the past three messages, we’ve been exploring Abraham’s journey of faith, becuase Paul makes the connection between Abraham and us as New Covenant believers. As we have been studying the life of Abraham, we have seen how he believed in God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, without the Law, without religious performance, and without anything added to his faith. Abraham was not under the Law. Abraham, 430 years before the Law was even introduced, was under grace. God spoke, he believed it, and he became the “Father of faith.”

Today, as we progress through Paul’s letter, we see that the Apostle says something else that has tremendous theological implications. I am sure that this would have stunned the religious leaders in Galatia: You don’t become a child of Abraham through your bloodline or through keeping the Law; you become a child of Abraham through faith and faith alone!

The Jews prided themselves on being Abraham’s physical descendants. They thought their natural heritage guaranteed them God’s favor. They believed that being circumcised and keeping the Law made them true children of Abraham. But Paul says, “No! Faith is what makes you a child of Abraham!”

This was revolutionary at the time, and the crazy part is that today, 2,000 years later, many Christians still don’t understand this. Simply put, your spiritual DNA doesn’t come from your natural birth or religious performance; it comes from your faith! This changes everything about identity, inheritance, and belonging in God’s family.

So what does this mean to you today? A few things.

1. Your Faith Makes You Family, Not Your Bloodline or Performance.

Paul is establishing that spiritual lineage trumps natural lineage every time! The Jews thought they were in God’s family because of their bloodline. Others thought they could get in through Law-keeping. But God says, “You get into My family the same way Abraham did: by faith in Me!”

How this applies to you:

You don’t need the right last name, the right skin color, or the right religious background to be Abraham’s child. All you need is faith! This means God’s family is truly inclusive. Anyone who believes can belong.

— The religious people in Paul’s day had genealogies, circumcision certificates, and Law-keeping records, but they weren’t true children of Abraham. You might not have any religious credentials, but if you have faith, you are Abraham’s child; more than they ever were!

Your faith gives you a spiritual heritage that’s more powerful than any natural heritage. You might come from a broken family, but faith makes you part of Abraham’s family. You might have no earthly inheritance, but faith gives you Abraham’s inheritance! You get the Blessing of Jesus (spiritual) and the Blessing of Abraham (natural).

— Think about this: The Jews could trace their bloodline back to Abraham, but they couldn’t trace their faith back to him. They had his blood but not his belief system. You may not have his blood, but if you share his belief, you’re his true child.

God isn’t looking at your family tree; He’s looking at your faith. It doesn’t matter if your parents were preachers or pagans. It doesn’t matter if you grew up in church or in the streets. Faith makes you family!

— This destroys every form of spiritual elitism. Nobody gets special treatment because of their natural bloodline. Everyone enters through faith, period.

You’re not trying to become Abraham’s child through religious performance; you already are his child through faith! The moment you believed, you were adopted into God’s family. It’s already done!

2. Your Inheritance Comes Through Faith DNA, Not Natural DNA.

When Paul says we are “children of Abraham,” he’s not just talking about a nice spiritual title. In the ancient world, being someone’s child meant you inherited what they had. If faith makes you Abraham’s child, then faith gives you Abraham’s inheritance! Paul makes this crystal clear later in Galatians 3:29 (TPT): “And since you’ve been united with Jesus the Messiah, you are now Abraham’s ‘seed,’ heirs according to the promise.”

How this applies to you:

Every promise God made to Abraham is yours through faith in Christ. God promised Abraham that he would be blessed, that he would be a blessing, and that nations would be blessed through him. These promises are your inheritance because being in Christ makes you Abraham’s seed!

— The Jews thought Abraham’s blessings were exclusive to them, locked up in their bloodline. But Paul shows that if you belong to Christ, you ARE Abraham’s seed! You don’t need Jewish blood, and you don’t need to keep the Law. All you need is to be in Christ! Your union with Jesus makes you an heir according to THE promise!

Your faith DNA is more powerful than your natural DNA. Your natural DNA might carry disease, poverty, or dysfunction. But your faith DNA (which comes from being united with Christ) carries blessing, favor, and divine purpose! Which DNA are you going to live by?

— Abraham was promised that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars. Guess what? You’re one of those stars! Not because you’re Jewish, but because you’re in Christ! Every time Abraham looked at the stars, he was prophetically looking at you!

When you embrace the Blessing of Jesus and the Blessing of Abraham, you are embracing both spiritual and natural blessings. Through faith, you inherit not just spiritual blessings but also the promise of natural provision, protection, and prosperity. Being Abraham’s seed through Christ unlocks both realms! Unfortunately, most Christians today only seek the spiritual blessing and ignore the natural blessing, because they think it is “worldly.” Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph did not think it was worldly.

Stop living like a spiritual orphan when being in Christ has made you Abraham’s seed and an heir according to THE promise! You’re not begging God for scraps; you’re inheriting THE promise!

3. Faith Creates a Global Family That Transcends Every Barrier.

Paul was destroying the wall between Jews and Gentiles in Galatians 3. He made it clear that God’s family isn’t determined by ethnicity, nationality, or religious tradition; it’s determined by faith! This creates a worldwide family of believers who share the same spiritual DNA.

How this applies to you:

Every believer on the planet is your spiritual sibling because you share the same faith DNA. A believer in China, Nigeria, or Brazil is more your family than someone in your natural-blood family who does not believe!

— The early church struggled with this revelation. Jews and Gentiles couldn’t eat together, much less worship together. But Paul says, “If you both have faith, you’re both Abraham’s children, which makes you family!”

— This means you’re never alone! You’re part of a faith family that includes Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Peter, Paul, and millions of believers throughout history. You’re connected to something bigger than yourself!

Faith breaks down every wall that religion builds up. Religion divides people by rules, rituals, and traditions. Faith unites people through believing the same God and His promises. Which system are you operating in?

— When you meet another believer, you’re meeting family. You might not share the same culture, ethnicity, language, or background, but you share the same faith DNA. That makes you closer than a natural family!

The family of faith is the only family that will last forever. You’re building relationships that will last in this world and in the world to come!

4. Faith Reveals and Receives the Identity God Already Established for You.

When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your mistakes, your past, or your performance record. He sees who He declared you to be before the foundation of the world! Your faith doesn’t create your identity; your faith receives the identity God already established by His grace!

How this applies to you:

God determined who you are before you were born, before you did anything good or bad. Your identity as Abraham’s child was settled in eternity by God’s grace. Faith is simply how you receive and walk in what God already declared about you!

— What I am saying applies to Abraham, too. Abraham believed in God, and he is known as the “Father of faith,” but that is only because God destined him to be that. Abraham’s faith simply received what God had already decided. Your faith works the same way. Your faith receives what grace has already provided!

Every time the devil tries to define you by your past, remind him that God defined you before you had a past! Before you were born, before you sinned, before you failed, God already said who you are by His grace! What you are doing today is walking it out by faith.

— Paul was chosen before birth to be an Apostle, even while he was persecuting Christians. Peter was chosen to be a leader in the New Testament church before he ever denied Christ. God’s grace predetermined their identity; their faith just had to catch up to what God already knew!

You don’t believe your way into a new identity; you believe your way into discovering your true identity! God already knows who you are. Faith is the process of you finding out what He’s always known!

— When you understand who you are, that you are in Christ, and that you are also Abraham’s seed and an heir according to THE promise, you stop trying to achieve an identity and start receiving the identity God already gave you. It’s not about earning your way into God’s blessing by compliance with the Law or working your way up the spiritual ladder. It is about believing what God believes about you. What God believes is who you already are! You just have to accept it so you can live out God’s destiny for your life.

Your identity as Abraham’s child is unshakeable because it’s based on God’s eternal decision, not your temporary performance. God declared it before time began, and your faith simply agrees with what He already said. It’s already done!

Listen, I need you to understand something powerful before we close today: Through faith in Christ, you receive BOTH the Blessing of Abraham AND the Blessing of Jesus! The Blessing of Jesus is spiritual. It is about righteousness, peace, joy in the Holy Spirit, eternal life, and union with God. The Blessing of Abraham is natural. It is about provision, protection, prosperity, influence, and generational impact

Religion has taught you to choose one or the other, but God says you get BOTH!

Abraham was blessed materially AND spiritually. He was God’s friend AND he was wealthy. He had divine encounters AND earthly success. Stop letting religious thinking rob you of half your inheritance! You’re not being carnal when you expect God to bless you naturally. You are actually being Biblical!

That’s enough for today.

Declaration of Faith:

Father, I thank You that faith makes me Abraham’s seed and an heir according to THE Promise!

I don’t need the right bloodline or religious performance.

My faith makes me part of a global family that transcends ethnicity, skin color, culture, and background.

We are ALL ONE in You!

I am Abraham’s seed through Christ.

I inherit THE promise.

I receive BOTH blessings: the Blessing of Jesus AND the Blessing of Abraham.

My identity was settled in eternity by Your grace.

My faith agrees with who You have revealed that I already am.

I am Living #TheGraceLife and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!

I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
