Praying for Yourself – A Healthy Body

by Rick

(1 Thes 5:17 NLT)  Never stop praying.

This morning we continue our series entitled, “Re-Energizing Your Prayer Life,” by continuing to look at “What to Pray For.”  Since last week I have been giving you suggestions about what and who to pray for.  I am doing this because many believers tell me that they simply don’t know what to pray for and that they run out of things to pray for within just a few minutes of starting their prayers.  I wanted to give offer a variety of suggestions about other people before I started suggesting what you should pray for when praying for yourself.  I will address that area for the next few days, but before I do, let me you give a suggested ‘general outline’ that might help you think of things to pray for on different days.  Remember, these are just suggestions:

Sample Weekly Prayer Plan:

Mondays:  Your local church (leadership, vision, ministries, etc.)

Tuesdays:  Your government (national, state, city, local, the economy, healthcare, etc.)

Wednesdays:  The Body of Christ (the Gospel, unity, those being persecuted, etc.)

Thursdays:  World events (disasters, wars, terrorism, upcoming elections, etc.)

Fridays:  Your family (salvation, health, education, unity, love, peace, etc.)

Saturdays:  Your concerns (whatever is heavy on your heart)

Sundays:  For God to be glorified, for ministry take place, and for lives to be changed all over the world through corporate worship and the preached Word.

When praying for yourself, like any other prayer, it must be in line with God’s Word.  So here are a few scriptures to meditate before praying for a healthy body:

(Mat 12:14, 15 NIV)  But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.  Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick

(Acts 10:38 NASB)  You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

(Mat 8:14-17 NIV)  When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever.  He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him.  When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill.  This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

(1st John 3:8 NASB)  “…The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.”

(Deut 28:61 BBE)  And all the diseases and the pains not recorded in the book of this law will the Lord send on you till your destruction is complete.

Closing Prayer:  Father, I have Biblical evidence that shows how Jesus healed the sick everywhere He went.  There was not one sickness, infirmity, or disease that was able to resist or withstand Jesus’ power.  Jesus clearly had authority over sickness and He exercised that authority in the earth.  I also see in scripture that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.  Since Jesus destroyed sickness, then sickness must be from satan.  Jesus would not destroy what You established.  Further, Jesus taught that we should pray “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, ON EARTH AS IT IS in heaven.”  So I should pray for (in the earth) what I see in heaven.  When I study about heaven I don’t see sickness, therefore I pray for what I see in heaven to come to the earth and I pray for a healthy body.  And lastly, Your Word teaches me that sickness is part of the curse and Christ died to redeem me from the curse of the law; therefore I forbid any sickness or disease to come upon this body.  Every diseased germ and every virus that touches this body dies instantly in the Name of Jesus.  By faith I declare that every cell and system in my body functions to the perfection to which You created it to function.  I forbid any malfunction in this body.  You, Father desire for me to live long and strong.  I submit to You, I resist the devil, and He MUST flee from me!  I pray this prayer by faith, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
