Our Work is to Believe!

by Rick

(John 6:29 NIV)  Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

This morning we continue our new series entitled, “Faith and Patience VOL III – Never Give Up!”  I hope the quick refresher on faith helped you.  Today I want to take you to something Jesus said.  In John chapter 6 we find the record of Jesus feeding 5,000 men (plus women and children) with a little boy’s lunch.  After the miracle of the fishes and loaves Jesus spent some alone time with the Father and He sent His disciples across the lake ahead of Him.  After prayer and communion with the Father Jesus caught up with the disciples by walking on water.

The next day people realized that Jesus was back in Capernaum and a crowd quickly formed.  They asked Jesus, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”  Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.”  Jesus was fully aware that there were people following Him only to benefit from His supernatural power.  It’s the same today.  Many claim to follow God, but only because they are attempting to get something from Him, without truly wanting God Himself.  Jesus went on to say, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.  On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”  Now this peaked their interest.  If Jesus was offering to give them the supernatural, then they wanted it.  The crowd was full of people who wanted to do what He did.  So they asked Jesus, “What must we do to perform the works of God?”  That’s the $64,000 question.  They wanted to know how to tap into the supernatural, how to do what Jesus was doing.  Jesus answered, “

The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

We are called believers for a reason.  Our work is to believe.  We are to believe and not doubt, to operate in faith and not fear, to stand and not quit, to get a hold of a promise and never let it go.  Do you want to operate in the supernatural?  Do you want to see the power of God released and manifested in your life?  Do you want to tap into God’s ability?  Then there is only one way to do it and that is TO BELIEVE!  Furthermore, the point of this series is not just to teach the fact that God wants us to believe and to operate in faith, but to drive home the fact that our heavenly Father wants us to keep on believing until we see (in the natural) what we have already seen (in the spirit).  Remember, there is a space between the prayer and the performance of it and in that space we must maintain our belief.  This is where faith and patience come in.  This is when we need joy and peace.  This is when a ‘no quit’ attitude pays big dividends.

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things:

1.  You can’t work for the supernatural, you can only believe for it.

2.  You can never earn anything in or from God.  The Father freely gives you what He has ordained for you to have, by His grace, and through your believing.

3.  Your work is only to believe!

Closing Confession:  Father, I thank You for Your grace.  By Your grace I am able to believe You for the supernatural.  I could never work or earn my way to Your blessing.  You freely bless me by Your grace.  Your grace is amazing to me and I am so blessed that I want to be a blessing to others.  In order to be that blessing and in order for You to flow through me in the way that You desire, I am expected to believe.  Therefore, I declare that I will.  I am a believer and not a doubter.  My work is only to believe and I shall believe every day of my life.  I believe You will flow TO me and then THROUGH me daily.  I believe You will do all that You have blessed me to see in the spirit.  Actually, I believe those things are already done and it is only a matter of time before they manifest in the natural.  You are not going to do these things because I believe.  No, I believe because You have already done them and my work is to open the door of my heart to receive them.  I declare this by faith!  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!

So many of the teachings of God people don’t quite understand that being helpless to do Gods work they live in A state of failure always trying to accomplish what only God can accomplish. Most of the teaching has to do with walking your path and having God support you. It’s actually the reversal that you follow God. God doesn’t follow you!
It’s nice to find someone teaching this fact. Thank you.
