You are both Human and Divine

by Rick

This morning we continue our series “Grace that is Simply Amazing.”  Yesterday I started a new mini-series, within this series, entitled, “Minimizing Your Humanity and Maximizing Your Divinity” and I told you that as Born-Again believers we are both human and divine.  As I meditated on that thought yesterday, the Lord really ministered to me and I am excited about what He will allow me to share over the next few weeks.

You are undoubtedly human, but are also unquestionably divine, because God Himself lives inside of you.  You are seated in front of your computer right now, or standing in front of your mobile device, as you read this message, but you are also, at the same time, seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus.  In one sense, you are human and limited, just like everyone else.  But in another sense, you are supernatural and limitless, just like God Himself.  But you will never maximize what you do not understand, you will most likely never experience what you do not expect, and it is difficult to receive what you do not perceive.  Therefore, over the next few weeks my assignment is to teach you about the supernatural power of God, that has been made available to you through Christ Jesus, by God’s undeserved grace, in hopes that you will open your heart to receive the supernatural to the point where God is able to move through you like never before.

So what does this mean to you today?  Today the Father wants you to know that His supernatural power is available to you to:

1.  Enhance your human abilities.  You are human and you do live in the earth, therefore there is nothing wrong will developing your natural human abilities.  Just remember that you do not have to rely on your power alone.  Daniel, for example, was a Hebrew slave in Babylon, and he had to perform natural duties as a slave.  But God’s grace was on Daniel and he was able to do natural things so well, and with such an excellent spirit, that the king put Daniel (a man who was supposed to be a slave) in charge of the entire province of Babylon.  Another example is Joseph.  Joseph was also a slave in Potiphar’s house.  Joseph did not perform any miracles, and he did not necessarily do anything supernatural, but God’s favor (grace) was on Joseph to perform his daily duties so well that he was promoted to run the entire estate.  The only thing Potiphar concerned himself with was what he was going to eat.  Likewise, you have daily duties that may not require supernatural power, but God can still enhance your natural abilities, with His grace and favor, and bless you to do what you do exceptionally well.

2.  Augment your human abilities with supernatural power.  In addition to God being able to bless you to do what you do exceptionally well, by natural standards, God can also add His “super” to your “natural” and bless you to experience natural things with supernatural results.  For example, David spent a good portion of his childhood tending to his father’s sheep.  David took his job seriously, and he protected the sheep with fearless dedication.  Young David, as a teenager, fought and killed a lion and a bear with his bare hands.  While this was a natural thing, it is clear that God supernaturally augmented David’s power to do what he could not do on his own.  God was protecting David for his life’s assignment as king of Israel.  Another example is Peter.  Peter was a fisherman by trade and there was a time when he spent all night fishing, to no avail.  He did not even catch one guppie.  However, after investing his time, talent and treasure into Jesus’ ministry, Jesus told Peter to go out one more time and let the nets down.  Peter knew, naturally speaking, that the right time to fish had come and gone.  But in obedience to Jesus he did it, and the result was a net-breaking , boat-sinking, load of fish.  The point is that God can augment your power and abilities with His, causing you to experience supernatural results in your daily activities.

3.  Exceed your human abilities with supernatural power.  While it is clear that God can anoint you to do what you do better, and He can augment your human ability with touches of the divine, there are also times when God will simply use you to do something that far exceeds human ability.  Peter was a simple fisherman who would otherwise seem to be a normal guy with lots of passion and zeal, was used of God to do things that defy human logic.  Peter walked on water.  While he only took a few steps, he did defy the law of gravity and that is not something that can be explained away.  Or another time, when confronted with a man who had been lame from birth, Peter said, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”  Before anyone could realize it, the man who had never walked before was walking, jumping and praising God.  I could give you many examples of this, but I believe you get the point.  While God can bless you to perform your natural duties better, and while He can move behind the scenes in supernatural ways to help you do natural things, He can also do supernatural things through you, that cannot be explained away.

Closing Confession:  Father, I thank You for taking the time to teach me about Your amazing grace.  As I read what You have done for and through others, I open my heart to receive what You want to do for and through me.  I know I am human and limited, but I am also divine and limitless because You live in me.  I have things I need to do today, and this week.  As I seek to perform my natural duties, I believe You will bless me to do them better.  You will enhance my ability with Yours.  Additionally, I also believe that You will augment my ability with Your supernatural power.  You will move behind the scenes, doing things for me that I cannot do, opening doors that no man can close and closing doors that no man can open.  As you augment my power with Your supernatural power, I will experience divine success.  And lastly Father, I know You can use me to perform the supernatural.  While You can and do operate in my life in ways that are subtle, I know there are times when You want to do things that are supernaturally extravagant.  I open my heart to be used of You in this way as well.  I decrease that You may increase in and through me.  By faith I declare that You will use me to do things that far exceed human logic or reasoning, and as You do, I will be sure to direct all the glory to You!  I am human, but I am also divine.  I am ready to be used in supernatural ways by Your underserved grace.  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

This is Today’s Word!  Apply it and Prosper.
