(Read Matthew 10:1-10)
This morning we get back to our series, “Grace that is Simply Amazing” by continuing our mini-series entitled, “Grace Based Success (Prosperity)”. We have been studying the life of the Apostle Peter. Our study has brought us to Matthew 10 and before I took my break we had been walking through verses 1-10. Let’s go back to that passage today. The Bible says:
Jesus sent the twelve men out with these instructions: “Don’t go to the non-Jewish people. And don’t go into any town where the Samaritans live. But go to the people of Israel. They are like sheep that are lost. When you go, tell them this: ‘God’s kingdom is now very near.’ Heal the sick. Bring the dead back to life. Heal the people who have leprosy. And force demons out of people. I give you these powers freely, so help others freely. Don’t carry any money with you—gold or silver or copper. Don’t carry a bag. Take only the clothes and sandals you are wearing. And don’t take a walking stick. A worker should be given what he needs.”
We have already walked through most of this passage. Today I will focus in on the words, “Don’t carry any money with you—gold or silver or copper. Don’t carry a bag. Take only the clothes and sandals you are wearing. And don’t take a walking stick. A worker should be given what he needs.” It is important to understand why Jesus told His disciples not to take money or clothes. He did not want them relying on their resources. He wanted them to see God as their source. The last words here are important. Jesus said, “A worker should be given what he needs.”
So what does this mean to you today? Let’s get into it.
- When you are doing what God called you to do and you see God as your source, supernatural provision will always manifest.
- Later on, when Jesus wanted to make a point about the looking to the Father as your only source, Jesus recalled this situation and He asked, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” The disciples answered, “Nothing“. When you get to the point where you are doing the will of God and you know He is your source, you will lack NOTHING!
- Jesus was sending the disciples out to perform the supernatural. If they could not rely on God for natural things, they surely would not rely on God for supernatural things. It’s the same with us. God has called us to a supernatural life. But if you can’t see God as your source for natural things, like food/clothes/money, then you won’t be able to believe God for truly supernatural things.
- God wants you to see Him as your source, period. No matter what your need (natural or supernatural), you must see and seek God as your source.
- When you get to the point where God is your only source, you will never lack resources.
- When you get to the point where your life is solely about God’s vision for you, you will never lack provision.
- God works with you with small things, to teach you how to rely on Him as your source, because His vision for your life is huge. But if you can’t trust Him for small things, you will never be able to truly rely on Him for the manifestation of His best.
Closing Confession: Father, I thank You for teaching me about Your grace and my requirement to live by faith. You want to know that You are my only source and I want to get to the point where You are. I declare by faith that I am at that point. Some trust in uncertain riches. Some trust in earthly connections. I trust in You! You alone are my source and strength. I lean on You. I believe in You. I trust in You. I look to You. I am nothing without You and I don’t attempt anything You don’t lead me to do. I live my life by faith and my faith is solely in You! It is in You that I live, and move, and have my being. I enter this day openly declaring that You are the source of my strength. You are the strength of my life. You have given me a vision and You will release the provision. You are my source, so I will never lack resources. My eyes are fixed on You and I am confident that I will complete my divine assignment, because I won’t be the one doing it. It is You, living me, You give me the words, You perform the work, and You provide everything I need. I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
