Bringing Your Life Into Focus

by Rick

(Prov 23:7a)  For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.

This morning we continue our new series entitled, “Refined Focus”.  I have been meditating on the words God gave me for this year, “Refined Focus”.  I’ve asked God to speak to me concerning those words and what He wants me to give my attention to in this season.  The Lord has been speaking and so far I’ve received the following as areas I will teach on in 2016:

  • Focusing your mind: taking control of what you give your attention to.
  • Focusing on your divine purpose: giving God’s purpose a higher priority than selfish desires.
  • Focusing on divine peace: combating every thought that will strip you of the peace of God.
  • Focusing on the Word of God: meditating and medicating on what God HAS said so you can hear what He IS saying.
  • Focusing on speaking the Word only: taking control of the power of the tongue.

I am sure the Lord will give me more areas to teach on, but that is what I have received thus far.  I will pray about the order and then give as I receive.

For today I am led to simply focus on the the word focus.  This is a time of the year when many people are attempting to seek clarity for their lives.  Another way to say it is they are attempting to bring their lives into focus.  Just like you can bring your vision into focus by concentrating on a certain object, you can bring your life into focus by giving your complete attention over to God and His purpose for your existence.

The definition of focus is: a central point of concentration; a main purpose or interest.  Your mind is always working.  If uncontrolled, thoughts can flood your mind continually.  You must choose to give your attention over to something and when you concentrate on any given thing, you are giving that thing your focus and attention.  The power of the mind is so powerful that Solomon, the wisest man in the Bible, taught us that a man IS the way he THINKS he is.  Whatever you give your thoughts over to is who you will become.

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things:

  1.  God has given you the ability to concentrate your thoughts with laser-focus.  You don’t have to allow your mind to run wild.

  1.  You have the God-given ability to take control of thoughts (see 2 Cor 10:3-5).

  1.  If you allow your thoughts to be uncontrolled, your life will be unfocused and unproductive.

  1.  Along with an attention span, God has given you the power to focus your attention on whatever you choose.

  1.  If you choose to give your attention completely to the things of God, you will live life with divine clarity and concerted concentration.

  1.  What have you been giving your attention/focus to?  If you haven’t been focused on anything, it’s time to focus.  If you’ve been focusing on the wrong things, it’s time to change.  If you’ve been focusing on the things of God, stay focused, your concentration and the actions that follow will produce divine results.

Closing Confession:   Father, this is a season of refined focus for me.  You bless me to discover and understand my purpose.  The revelation of my divine purpose helps me bring my life into focus.  I purposely take control of every thought that is not like You.  I take control of my mind and I choose to focus on my divine purpose.  I strip away unnecessary and unproductive thoughts.  I take time to pray and think, and You lead me in the way I should go.  As You speak, I receive.  As You lead, I follow.  As You reveal, I focus.  My life will no longer be haphazard, unfocused, disorganized or disorderly.  In 2016 I bring my life into focus.  By grace I pray, plan, prepare, perform and produce divine results.  I declare this by faith!  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

This is Today’s Word!  Apply it and Prosper.
