Keep Pressing In Faith

by Rick

This morning I continue our series entitled, “Standing on a Word from God.”  This is Part 19.  We have been looking at the life of Abraham for weeks.  We spent about a week looking at Genesis 22:1-5. Today we will look at verses 6-8.  The Bible says:

Abraham took the wood for the sacrifice and put it on his son’s shoulder. Abraham took the special knife and fire. Then both he and his son went together to the place for worship.  Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father!” Abraham answered, “Yes, son?” Isaac said, “I see the wood and the fire. But where is the lamb we will burn as a sacrifice?” Abraham answered, “God himself is providing the lamb for the sacrifice, my son.”

(Gen 22:6-8 ERV)

So what does this mean to you today?  A few things.

1.  Walk in the light God has revealed.

a)  Abraham did not know what was going to happen on the mountain.  All he knew was what God said. So he walked in the “light” God had provided.  He took his son, the knife, the wood, and what he needed to start the fire and he headed up the mountain.  Sometimes we just need to keep pressing forward with what we know, knowing that we don’t have all the answers, trusting that God will speak to us AS WE GO!

b)  If you wait until you have all the answers before moving you will never go anywhere.  God often does not speak until we get started. He expects us to launch out in what He said, even though we don’t have the full revelation yet, believing that He will reveal to us whatever He needs to reveal AS WE GO.

c)  God can do more with you ONCE YOU GET STARTED.  You can analyze, hypothesize, theorize and strategize all you want, but at some point you are going to have to get started.  You can sit there debating what God said or you can launch out in the little bit of “light” you have. You will find that once you get started more “light” will be given to you.

2.  Don’t attempt to explain the unexplainable.

a)  Isaac said, “Dad, I see the wood and the fire. But where is the lamb we will burn as a sacrifice?”  Abraham answered, “God himself is providing the lamb for the sacrifice, my son.”  Abraham was not going to attempt to explain everything to Isaac, because what he was doing was almost unexplainable.  He just spoke by faith, declaring that God would provide, not truly knowing what God was going to do. This is the situation God often puts us in when we live by faith.

b)  When you truly live by faith God will put you in situations you cannot explain to people.  Don’t even try. Those without the Holy Spirit cannot understand spiritual things. Those with the Holy Spirit may not understand it either because they don’t have the revelation God has given you.  So to live by faith you are going to have to learn to keep some things to yourself. There are times when God will place people around you, people of like-precious-faith you can speak to, but many times you are going to have to keep your dream in your heart because it is too far fetched to explain to anyone.

3.  Continue to speak the language of faith, even when you don’t have all the answers.

a)  When Isaac asked Abraham what was going on, Abraham replied, “God himself is providing the lamb for the sacrifice, my son.”  He was speaking the language of faith, even though he really did not know what was going to happen when they got to the top of the mountain.  This is how it is when you are living by faith. Many times you won’t know what, when or how things are going to happen, but you have to continue to say what you believe God revealed, until you SEE what you SAY!

b)  Living by faith is a journey of discovery.  As you walk with God and He walks with you, there will be times when He is clear and times when He is not.  There will be times when God speaks freely and other times when He is silent. There will be times when you are certain of what God is doing and other times where you have no clue.  But through it all you must continue to press on, in faith, believing God, trusting that He will reveal whatever He needs to reveal whenever He needs to reveal it. This is the life of faith and it is how we are called to live.

Closing Confession:

Father, this is a season of expectation for me.  I expect You will do ALL You said You would do in my life.  I am fully persuaded of what You have promised, even though I don’t have all the answers or all the details.  I launch out in faith, with the “light” you have given me, fully expecting You to reveal what I need when I need it.  And if questioned about it, I will not attempt to explain the unexplainable. I will simply speak the language of faith as I attempt to press forward towards Your overall expected end for my life.  I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

This is Today’s Word.  Apply it and prosper!
