Grace in Galatians (Part 56): Why Your Prayers Aren’t Working

by Rick

Today, we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.

As part of this series, I am teaching a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Galatians.

Key scriptures for this year:

2 Corinthians 9:8 TPT
“Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything—every moment and in every way. He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do.”

Galatians 5:4 TPT
“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace!”

Romans 6:14 ERV
“Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law. You now live under God’s grace.”

1 Corinthians 15:10 CEV
“But God treated me with undeserved grace! He made me what I am, and his grace wasn’t wasted. I worked much harder than any of the other apostles, although it was really God’s grace at work and not me.”

Scripture(s) we will study today:

Galatians 3:2 TPT

“So answer me this: Did the Holy Spirit come to you as a reward for keeping Jewish laws? No, you received him as a gift because you believed in the Messiah.”

Mark 11:23 KJV

“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Ephesians 6:18 ERV

“Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. Always pray for all of God’s people.”

Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV

“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”

Hebrews 4:16 TPT

“So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of need.”

Setting the Stage:

Many believers have stopped praying because they’ve been praying wrong. According to recent Pew Research Center studies, the percentage of Americans who pray daily has declined substantially from 58% in 2007 to just 44% in 2023. This represents millions of Americans who have stepped away from regular prayer. Why? Because they were praying FOR God’s blessing instead of praying FROM their position in grace. Today, I want to show you how to pray with the authority that grace has already given you.

When you understand that you received the Spirit by faith, not by works (Galatians 3:2), it changes everything about how you pray. You stop begging God for what He’s already provided. You stop trying to convince Him to bless you. You stop trying to earn God’s best. Instead, you pray from your position of authority in Christ, accessing what grace has already made available.

Prayer isn’t about changing God’s mind; it’s about aligning with what He’s already determined and releasing it into the earth. When you pray from grace, you pray with confidence, authority, and expectation.

So what does this mean to you today? A few things.

1. You’re Not Working FOR God’s Blessing; Your Commandment Is To Live BY Faith.

Galatians 3:2 asks a critical question: “Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?” The answer changes how you pray. You didn’t receive the Spirit by performing; you received by believing. This same principle applies to prayer.

How this applies to you:

— Stop praying like you’re trying to earn God’s attention, His favor, or His blessing. You already have His full attention because of grace. You are already the apple of God’s eye.

— Your prayers don’t move God because of your performance. Those who operate in performance-based religion pray long prayers, because, while they may not realize it, they are even performing while they are praying. And they walk away from prayer thinking, “Did I do it right? Did I pray long enough?” People who think this way have way too much of a focus on them, and not enough focus on God, His plans, His purposes, and His grace!

— Stop measuring your prayers by how long or how hard you pray. Measure them by how much faith you’re exercising in what grace has provided.

— When you pray from grace, you’re not trying to convince God to bless you; you’re thanking Him for what He’s already done.

— The Spirit you received by faith gives you direct access to the throne room. You don’t need to work your way in; grace has already opened the door. Not only that, but Jesus gave you the right to enter IN HIS NAME!

— Your prayer life will change forever the day you realize you’re not a beggar at God’s door but a son or daughter with full access to the Father’s resources.

2. Prayer Is Positioning Yourself to Receive What Grace Has Already Accomplished.

In yesterday’s message, I taught you to speak TO your mountains like Jesus did. Today, I want to show you that prayer isn’t just about mountains; it’s about positioning your heart to receive everything grace has already stored up for you. Prayer aligns your spirit with God’s completed work.

How this applies to you:

— Prayer is not informing God of your needs; it’s positioning yourself to receive what He’s already prepared.

— When you pray from grace, you’re not trying to get God to do something new; you’re accessing what’s already finished in the heavenly realm.

— Your prayers create the spiritual atmosphere for heaven’s resources to manifest in earthly situations.

— God has already provided everything you need by His unearned grace. Prayer opens the channel for you to receive what’s been stored up for you.

— When you pray “Father, Your kingdom has come, and Your will shall be done, on earth, as it is in heaven, THROUGH ME,” you’re asking for heaven’s reality to manifest on this planet through you, as a vessel. That is far different from simply coming to God with a laundry list of selfish desires.

— Prayer from grace is less about asking and more about receiving, accessing, and releasing what’s already available.

— Every time you pray in faith, you’re positioning yourself to receive and experience what grace has already accomplished for you.

3. Different Situations Require Different Types of Prayer.

Different situations require different approaches. There’s a prayer of faith, intercession, thanksgiving, warfare, and more. Knowing which prayer to pray is crucial.

How this applies to you:

— Sometimes you need warfare prayer when you’re under spiritual attack. Other times you need thanksgiving when you’re walking in victory.

— Don’t bring a worship prayer to a warfare situation. When the enemy is attacking, it’s time to fight in prayer, not just sing. You must discern what to do when.

— The prayer of intercession is when you stand in the gap for others, using your authority to release grace into their situation.

— The prayer of faith is when you speak to mountains and believe you receive what you’ve asked for before you see it.

— Learn to be led by the Spirit in prayer. He knows exactly what type of prayer is needed for each situation. Be sensitive to what the Spirit is saying about how to pray, not just what to pray.

4. Your Prayers Release Heaven’s Power into Earth’s Situations.

Here’s a powerful truth: God has chosen to work through human partnership. As it’s been said, “Without God, man cannot; without man, God will not.” Your prayers give God legal access to move in earthly affairs.

How this applies to you:

— God has given the earth to mankind, and He works through our prayers to accomplish His will in the earth.

— When you don’t pray, you’re actually limiting what God wants to do in your life and circumstances because He is looking for your agreement.

— Your prayers are not informing God of what’s happening; they’re inviting Him to intervene with His power and grace.

— Ezekiel 22:30 shows God looking for someone to “stand in the gap.” Your prayers can make the difference between breakthrough and defeat.

— Every time you pray in faith, you’re releasing heaven’s resources into earth’s situations.

— Don’t let past disappointments stop you from praying. Don’t be one of the millions who stopped praying. God is still looking for people who will partner with Him through prayer.

5. Grace-Based Prayer Comes with Bold Confidence, Not Timid Begging.

Hebrews 4:16 tells us to “come boldly to the throne of grace.” When you understand your position in Christ, you don’t come to God as a beggar hoping for scraps or crumbs. You come as a beloved child accessing what your Father has already provided.

How this applies to you:

— When you get a revelation of God’s grace and you realize how God sees you, it gives you the boldness to access the Father’s presence without fear. You don’t have to approach Him timidly, because “as Jesus is, so are you, in this world” (1 John 4:17). And Jesus Himself has given you the right to access the throne in His name.

— Your confidence in prayer doesn’t come from your performance; it comes from your position in Christ. You get to rest in all of who Jesus is.

— You can approach God with the same confidence Jesus had because you’re in Him and He’s in you.

— When you pray, remember that grace has already qualified you for everything you’re asking for through Christ. And just as long as you are praying for what God planned for your life, the Bible says you can walk away from that prayer knowing two things: 1) God heard you, and 2) you already have it, and it is just a matter of time before it manifests (see 1 John 5:14,15).

— When you understand 1 John 5:14,15 and you pray in accordance with God’s will, you can have exceptional boldness and confidence because you are simply praying back to God, the prayers He already prayed over you!

— People who don’t understand this and pray selfish prayers don’t get their prayers answered because, as James says, “they ask amiss” (James 4:3). As a result, they get frustrated and become one of the millions of people who stopped praying. Don’t let this be you! You must learn to pray FROM grace, not FOR grace!

That’s enough for today.

Declaration of Faith:

Father, I thank You for teaching me that I received Your Spirit by faith, not by works!

I’m not praying FOR Your blessing; I’m praying FROM my position in grace.

I position myself to receive what You’ve already accomplished for me.

I don’t beg for what You’ve already provided; I access it by faith.

Further, I don’t have to beg. I am not a slave. I am not a servant. I am a son!

My prayers give You the agreement You are looking for in order to release Your best in my life and on this planet.

I pray different prayers for different situations, always led by Your Spirit.

I know when to pray with thanksgiving, with worship, intercession, and in warfare.

My prayers are powerful and effective because I pray from my position in Christ.

I am living #TheGraceLife in 2025 and beyond, and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!

I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

This is Today’s Word! Apply it and Prosper!
