What to Pray for? Safety and Unity

by Rick

(1 Tim 2:1-4 NIV)  I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

This morning we continue our series entitled, “Re-Energizing Your Prayer Life,” by continuing to look at “What to Pray For.”  Here are a few more suggestions about whom and what to pray for:

For First Responders:  That the Father would bless and protect Police Officers, Firefighters and Medical Professionals who respond to emergencies on a daily basis.  That they would have the grace to perform their duties in excellence.  That they would experience supernatural/angelic protection from all harm.  That they would be equipped to face any and all challenges, with the courage and peace to operate under tremendous stress.

For Our Military:  (Ps 91:3) That the Father would keep our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Civilians deployed safe from secret traps (indirect fire, snipers, improvised-explosive-devices, etc.).  (Ps 91:4) That He would spread His wings them to keep them secure.  That His faithfulness would be like a shield or a city wall, protecting them from all harm.  (Ps 91:9) That the Father would be a fortress in whom they could run to for safety.  (Ps 91:10,11)  And that angels would protect wherever they go (flights, convoys, foot patrols, base camps, etc.).

Against terrorism:  (2 Cor 2:11) That we would not be ignorant of the devil’s plans.  That the Father would expose the evil plans made in the dark and bring them to the light, so that intelligence agencies all over the world could learn of, track down, and then capture every terrorist before their evil plans are carried out.  That every agent of the enemy be brought to justice and that peace would prevail throughout the globe.

For the Body of Christ:

For Unity: (Gal 3:27,28) Those of us who have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ and in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, Black nor White, Hispanic nor Asian, Baptist nor Presbyterian, Holiness nor Pentecostal, male nor female, we are ALL ONE IN CHRIST!  That we would live as one and shine as divine light in the midst of a dark, dying, and decaying world.

That we ALL WALK IN LOVE:  (1 Jn 4:8, 19;  Jn 13:35, Gal 5:6) We know that whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love and we declare that since He is in us and we are in Him, that we walk in Love in every area of our lives.  Jesus taught that love would be our identifying characteristic as believers and we pray that we all be united in love as we prepare for the Supernatural in 2012.  Paul taught us that we must WALK BY FAITH, but FAITH WORKS BY LOVE.  Nothing we do in or for God matters if we do not do it IN LOVE.  Praying that Love Himself would breakout IN US, ON US, THROUGH US, and FOR US!

So what does this mean to you today?  With these suggestions, the only thing left to do is to actually pray.  So let’s do just that.

Closing Prayer:  Father, I thank You for giving me access to You in prayer, through Your Son and my Savior Jesus the Christ.  I come confidently to Your throne in order to obtain mercy and the grace to help in the time of need.  I ask You Father to honor my faith and to bless every first responder today and this week.  Give them the internal peace to operate under the stress of emergency situations.  Shield and protect them from all harm and bless them to get home safely to their family members every day.  I lift up every Solder, Sailor, Airmen, Marine, and civilian who is deployed today in service to our great nation.  I ask You to manifest Your grace and peace unto them.  That You would protect every Air Force sortie, every helicopter flight, vehicle convoy, foot patrol, base camp, out post, and wherever their feet find to go.  Teach their fingers to fight and their hands to war as they carry out the orders given to them, to expose the enemy and to bring them to justice.  And lastly Father, I ask You for bless us, the Body of Christ.  That we would all be ONE, as You and Jesus are ONE.  Help us Father to look past our differences, so that we can walk in unity, love, and peace with one another.  I ask all these things in Jesus’ name.  Amen!
