The Grace to Measure Up

The Grace to Measure Up

(Read Daniel 5:24-28)

This morning we continue our series, “Grace that is Simply Amazing” by continuing our mini-series entitled, “Grace Based Success (Prosperity)”.  In yesterday’s message Daniel made it clear to King Belshazzar that he had every opportunity to learn from King Nebuchadnezzar’s example, but he failed to.  Belshazzar repeated Nebuchadnezzar’s mistake and he allowed pride to get the most of him.  The king’s pride let to the writing on the wall and in today’s message we get to see what the writing meant.

None of Belshazzar’s wise men could interpret the writing on the wall, but Daniel could.  This is what Daniel said to the king, “God sent the hand that wrote on the wall.  These are the words that were written on the wall: Mene, Mene, Tekel, Uparsin.  This is what these words mean: Mene: God has counted the days until your kingdom will end.  Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and you have not measured up.  Uparsin: Your kingdom is being taken from you.  It will be divided among the Medes and Persians.”

So what does this mean to you today?  Just two things today.

1.  God will see to it that you reap whatever you sow.

a)  King Belshazzar had every opportunity to learn from his predecessor and to sow good seed.  But he failed to learn and he made poor decisions.

b)  The Apostle Paul said, “If you think you can fool God, you are only fooling yourselves.  You will harvest what you plant.  If you live to satisfy your sinful self, the harvest you will get from that will be eternal death.  But if you live to please the Spirit, your harvest from the Spirit will be eternal life.” (Gal 6:7,8).

c)  God has setup a system in the earth that runs by cause-and-effect, sowing-and-reaping, and the free will of humans.

d)  If you sow good seed you will get a good harvest.  If you sow bad seed you will get a bad harvest.  There’s no mystery to it.

e)  If you don’t like the harvest you are reaping, check the seed you are sowing.

f)  God will not FORCE you to be blessed.  He expects your decisions to be decisions of faith that line up with His grace.

g)  If you make the wrong decisions you will get the wrong results.

2.  You will only be measured by your own ruler.

a)  God placed King Belshazzar on the scales and he did not measure up.  Belshazzar was only measured by his life’s assignment.

b)  God will not measure you with someone else’s ruler.  In other words, God will never hold you accountable for someone else’s assignment.

c)  God will only measure your life against the ruler of your divine purpose.  He won’t measure me with your ruler, because I am not you.  He won’t measure you with my ruler, because you are not me.  But he will measure each of us against the ruler of our specific divine purpose, and He expects us to measure up, because He has already given us the grace to do what He called us to do.

d)  You are unique, individual and special.  You were born with specific gifts, anointings, favor and grace.  God has given you all you need to maximize your purpose and potential.  The question is: Will you do it?  Will you submit to God’s assignment for your life?  Will you access His grace to accomplish what you were born to accomplish?  Will you become the man/woman God destined, designed and desires for you to be?  Will you?  Like most things, the choice is yours!  God has done His part.  He gave you the grace.  Now you must do you part, and use your faith to access His grace.

Closing Confession:   Father, I thank You for teaching me about Your grace and my requirement to live by faith.  You made plans for me before the world began.  You made those plans by Your unearned grace.  I had nothing to do with it.  You loved me before I was even born and You loved me enough to prepare for my arrival.  It would be unrighteous of You to expect something of me that You have not already prepared me for.  So You have already given me the grace for my specific purpose.  Everything I need to succeed in life and to become the man/woman I was born to be is already IN me.  You have given me specific giftings, anointings, favor and grace.  You have done Your part.  You now expect me to make decisions that line up with my purpose.  You expect me to access Your grace with my faith.  There will come a day when you place my life on the scales.  You will measure me against my life’s assignment.  You will not measure me against anyone else’s purpose, but my own.  And I declare, by faith, that I will measure up.  Not because of my goodness or because of self-effort.  No, I will measure up, but it will only be because of Your grace.  I submit to You, I embrace Your grace, and I am ready to be measured.  I declare this by faith.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
